DANIEL WHYTE III, PRESIDENT OF GOSPEL LIGHT SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL, SAYS PRAY FOR THIS HUMBLE PREACHER WHO STILL LOVES THE LORD ENOUGH TO PREACH THE GOSPEL ON A BUSY STREET CORNER. PRAY ALSO FOR THE DELUDED PERPETRATOR OF THIS CRIME, LATARRYES BUSH — PRAY FOR HIS SOUL’S SALVATION.

A dispute over a microphone Sunday left a North Little Rock street preacher wounded and a 20-year-man charged in his shooting, according to a police report detailing the incident.

At about 11:48 a.m. on Sunday, Latarryes Bush of North Little Rock approached a man preaching on the corner near the Starbucks at the intersection of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and McCain Boulevard, the report said. The name of the victim was not included in the report, but a THV11 story yesterday identified him as “Reverend Walker.”

Arkansas Times staff who live in the area say he was a familiar neighborhood figure and could often be seen preaching outside of businesses on JFK Boulevard.

Bush approached the preacher, demanded his microphone and told him “he had a gun and would kill him,” the police report stated. After the preacher refused to hand over the microphone, the man grabbed the mic and shot the preacher in the abdomen before fleeing on a bike, the report said.

When officers arrived, the wounded man described the incident to them. Witnesses provided a photo of the suspect, who was seen fleeing west on McCain. Officers found Bush walking on the 3900 block of North Cypress Street.

The police report said the victim is in stable condition.

Bush has been charged with criminal attempt to commit capital murder, aggravated robbery, battery, firearm possession and marijuana possession.

Bush admitted his involvement in the incident to detectives, according to a department press release, which said the incident was related to the “victim refusing to hand over a piece of property to the suspect.”

Bush is being held without bond at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility pending an initial court appearance. A video arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday morning, according to court records.

In March, Bush pleaded guilty to sexual indecency with a minor and theft of a firearm. Bush was sentenced to five years probation, received a $1,000 fine and was ordered to register as a sex offender.
