MULTIPLE PROMINENT PASTORS HAVE BEEN EXPOSED FOR GROSS SINS SUCH AS HOMOSEXUALITY, CHILD RAPE, BEING A REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER, ADULTERY, EMBEZZLING MONEY FROM THE CHURCH, ETC. “FOR THE TIME IS COME THAT JUDGMENT MUST BEGIN AT THE HOUSE OF GOD . . .

DANIEL WHYTE III SAYS FURTHER THAT SO-CALLED CHURCH LEADERS AND PARISHIONERS ACROSS THE NATION NEED TO FACE THE FACT THAT GOD IS THE ONE SHUTTING DOWN THE JUDAS-LAODICEAN EVANGELICAL AND PROGRESSIVE CHURCHES. IN LIGHT OF THIS, ALL OTHER CHURCHES NEED TO HUMBLE THEMSELVES, PRAY, SEEK GOD’S FACE, TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS, REPENT OF THEIR SINS, AND GET BACK TO THEIR FIRST LOVE — THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Pastor Keion Henderson was on sabbatical when the storm hit. The leader of Houston’s Lighthouse Church and his wife, Shaunie, had just celebrated Fourth of July and the pastor’s birthday in quick succession, and like many Texans they believed the forecast wasn’t actually that big of a deal.

Starting that Monday, however, the 43-year-old pastor began receiving images from church staff showing the utter destruction left behind by Hurricane Beryl. The deadly storm, with sustained winds reaching 85 mph in some parts of Houston, and with violent gusts moving even faster than that, had destroyed the roof of Lighthouse’s North campus in Humble and flooded its sanctuary and its office spaces.

“I saw years of sacrifice just floating in water,” Henderson said during an interview Tuesday. “It took the wind out of the sail for a little bit.”

The Lighthouse, one of Houston’s largest megachurches and one of nation’s fast-growing Black churches, announced that its North campus had to be “closed indefinitely” due to the significant damage suffered from the hurricane. It’s still unclear when the North campus will reopen, but during a phone call Tuesday, Henderson estimated it would likely cost between $10 million and $20 million to replace what was lost in the storm, including the roof, drywall, and the building’s electrical and sound systems. An insurance adjuster is expected to determine the true cost later this week, he added.

Many Houston residents were surprised by the storm’s force, as Beryl flooded roadways and knocked out power for more than 2.2 million residents. Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Jewish faith leaders reported that an increasing number of religious institutions lost power and running water. Roughly two weeks after Beryl hit, more than 20 deaths have now been attributed to the storm due to flooding, debris, heat and prolonged power outages.

Three out of four of Lighthouse church locations have now been shut down due to the damage from Hurricane Beryl, including its large North campus. The storm also damaged the church’s rented storage units. “Everything we had was attacked,” Henderson said, adding that he expects the church’s two smaller campuses, its West and South locations, to reopen sometime in August.

In the meantime, the church has continued to hold virtual services online, and at Lighthouse’s South-East campus set up in the Double Tree Hotel near Hobby Airport. But the conditions haven’t been ideal. Last Sunday, the hotel’s air conditioning didn’t work. “There were 700 people in the hot box, but the people are so resilient,” Henderson said. “When we do come back, it won’t be because we got the resources. It’ll be because the people, the staff and volunteers of the Lighthouse Church never lost faith.” Henderson plans on delivering his first post-hurricane Sunday sermon on Aug. 4. “This was a sabbatical month for me. This was the month I was supposed to be on vacation. But the hurricane said, ‘No sir,'” Henderson said, laughing.

The Lighthouse, founded in 2009 by Henderson, has blossomed into a megachurch with about 20,000 members stretching across Greater Houston. Shaunie, the first lady of Lighthouse, is the ex-wife of NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal and an executive producer and star of the VH1 reality series Basketball Wives. Together, the church leaders have rapidly grown their digital following as they host events featuring the likes of Bishop T.D. Jakes, Henderson’s mentor, as well as celebrities including NFL legend turned Colorado University football coach Deion Sanders.

In Tuesday’s interview, Henderson described how the Lighthouse had been seeking to complete “upgrades” to the church’s North campus in hopes of expanding the sanctuary’s size. On average, more than 3,000 people attend his Sunday sermons at the main location. But the church is still forced to turn away about 600 individuals each weekend due to lack of space there. In the church’s attempts to expand, Henderson said the Lighthouse was appraised two months ago and had increased its insurance policy without knowing the hurricane was coming.

UPDATE:INVESTIGATION CONTINUES FOR FIRE AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH DALLAS

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a massive four-alarm fire that destroyed a historic chapel at First Baptist Dallas Church.

Meanwhile, church leaders say they’re forging ahead with plans to continue services in the coming days and weeks.

It’s been three days, and people are still curious and compelled to go to the site and see what’s left of the historic chapel in downtown Dallas. For those with deep connections to the church, decades of memories are in the rubble.

Executive pastor Ben Lovvorn was baptized here as a young boy and married here years later.

“Believe it or not, my family has been in this church for five generations, over one hundred years,” he said. “So, I grew up, just like our pastor, Dr. Robert Jeffress, sitting in that room, the historic sanctuary.”

As a church leader, the short-term goal is to bring the congregation back into the adjacent sanctuary, which will take some work between today and Sunday morning. Lovvorn said they’re working to ensure the air is clean and items are sanitized.

The historic chapel went up in flames Friday evening and took some 50 units to control. No deaths or injuries were reported after the blaze broke out Friday evening in the Texas Historic Landmark, a Victorian-style red brick church built in 1890. It took firefighters about three hours to contain the blaze.

On Monday pastors joined engineers to present a 200-page report to Dallas Fire Rescue, which helps determine whether investigators will have full access to the building.

“It presents a plan that would allow us to construct a structure that would help us secure the building. In the meantime, make sure everything is safe,” Lovvorn said. “It would also preserve the site so that they’re able to do what they want to do.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but services will go on. The damage to the historic chapel is extensive, but there’s hope that what remains can be preserved and become part of what’s built on the site in the future.

IHOPKC Cancels Plan for New Church, But Says Prayer Room Will Continue

Embattled ministry International House of Prayer Kansas City (IHOPKC) announced its board members include chairman Kurt Fuller (center) and Malachi O’Brien (left). Leaders also stated that longtime IHOPKC pastor Isaac Bennett (right) will not be launching a new church. (TRR graphic)

Plans for a new church connected to the embattled International House of Prayer Kansas City (IHOPKC) have been canceled, according to an email sent to the IHOPKC community this morning. Also, former IHOPKC Executive Team Member Isaac Bennett and his wife, Morgan, who were planning to pastor the new church, have left the 24/7 prayer ministry.

The email  was sent by a reconfigured IHOPKC board of trustees and sought to dispel previous statements that IHOPKC was shutting down. Though many of the “expressions” of IHOPKC have closed, including its affiliated Forerunner Church, pastored by the Bennetts, and IHOP University, the ministry will continue to operate its prayer room, the email stated.

“We are committing to sustaining a vibrant spiritual community of believers wholeheartedly in love with Jesus, and are persevering in a more focused scope because the need for 24/7 prayer in Kansas City, America, and the nations has never been greater (emphasis in original),” the email stated.

However, the board said it had decided that the remaining IHOPKC ministry will operate “independent of any external church.” And it stated that the Bennetts’ previous plans to launch Sanctuary Church in collaboration with IHOPKC “will not be moving forward.”

“Despite the short-term disappointment, we are excited to see how the Lord will lead Isaac and Morgan, and bless any future ministry the Lord has for them,” the email stated.

Since last fall, IHOPKC has been mired in controversy related to allegations that its founder, Mike Bickle, sexually abused multiple women, including two who were minors.

Since the scandal, IHOPKC has faced financial issues, bleeding $500,000 a month due to plummeting donations, according to a leaked email and recording of an IHOPKC staff meeting in April. Bennett said in the leaked recording that closing IHOPKC and relaunching under a new name could limit liability if alleged victims sued the organization.

The Roys Report reached out to Bennett for comment, but he did not immediately respond.

In yesterday’s email, IHOPKC also revealed its current board  members, a list that was previously unknown.

The list includes Board Chairman General Kurt Fuller, who served for a short time as IHOPKC executive director. Also on the board is Malachi O’Brien, a business owner and staunch defender of IHOPKC, who called early reports of Bickle’s sexual misconduct “failure porn”; Ed Hackett, who was with Mike Bickle when IHOPKC was launched; Wellington Boone, a pastor and longtime friend of IHOPKC with controversial views on slavery as “redemptive”; Cindy Dodd, an IHOPKC missionary who was named as a director for IHOPKC in 2023; and Steve Brandt, a high-end Canadian donor, according to a former IHOPKC leader.

According to the email, the prayer room will “continue to be the heart of IHOPKC” and will continue to operate at its current location at the Red Bridge Center.

The prayer room will maintain an emphasis on prayer for Israel, training, and discipleship, the email said.

Though IHOPKC has determined the prayer room will operate independently of a church, the ministry said it has not yet worked out details of its governance structure.

“We realize that the long term health and wellbeing of the prayer room requires a formal governance structure for oversight, accountability, and spiritual strength,” the email states. “We are exploring the best fit moving forward and are committed to ensuring systems are in place for solid decision making and responsible leadership.”

In the announcement, the board invited feedback and promised to support staff.

“Your thoughts and ideas are important to us, we welcome and value them, and want to hear from you,” the announcement stated. “We intend to serve and support those who have been called as Intercessory Missionaries and the ones God will call in the days ahead.”
