Setting a Precedent: Nairobi Baptist Church’s Comprehensive Response to Pastor’s Misconduct Allegations
Daniel Whyte III, President of Gospel Light Society International, Says Nairobi Baptist Church in Kenya Puts on a Clinic on What to Do with a Pastor Who Has Been Accused of Child Molestation and Other Gross Sins: They Revoked His Ordination and License to Preach Anywhere; They Fired Him; Then They Excommunicated Him from the Church. Whyte Says the Black and White American Evangelical Church and the Western Evangelical Church Need to Take Heed of This Good Example.

Upholding Integrity: Nairobi Baptist Church Removes Senior Pastor After Investigation
Nairobi Baptist Church has formally announced the removal of its Senior Pastor, Rev. Munengi Mulandi, following what the church leadership described as “serious allegations of misconduct” deemed incompatible with ordained ministry.

In a statement released on August 3 by the church’s Elders Council, Rev. Mulandi’s role officially ended on June 1, 2025.
The decision followed a review process by the council, which concluded that his actions violated biblical standards expected of pastoral leadership.
What’s up my people? So there’s a video
going on on social media explaining the
whole situation about the Nairobi
Baptist church like yesterday it was
that August when they released a
statement on the departure of the former
uh senior pastor at the church. So uh
this pastor has been exposed with uh
congregation saying that uh he did this
and this. So before I play with the
video, let me tell you about the the
statement on the departure of the former
senior pastor at at uh Nairobi Baptist
Church. So as the body of Christ, we are
called to be holy and to hold
righteousness in line with the word of
God. We therefore share this statement
with humility, compassion, and sincere
commitment to truth, justice, and and
transparency.
Muni Mulandi is no longer serving as the
senior pastor of Nairobi Baptist Church
effective 1st June 2025
following serious allegations of
misconduct after careful review of his
actions against
biblical standards. They were deemed
incompatible
incompatible with the calling of a
servant of Jesus Christ and the
responsibility
uh of uh wait uh the responsibility of
ordained pastoral ministry.
Consequently, after prayerful
consideration and full awareness of the
weight of such an action, the elders
council made the decision to revoke his
ordination. This means that as a church
we sadly can no longer affirm that is
qualified to be a minister of the gospel
of Christ of Jesus Christ.
An independent investigation
is being initiated to understand the
extent impact of the matter. We are
fully committed to due process pursuing
truth with integrity and addressing this
matter with the seriousness it demands.
This is profoundly difficult painful
season for our church community. We are
resolved to handle the matter family
with courage, care and accountability.
Our foremost concern is that uh is the
safety, dignity and well-being of the
individuals directly impacted. We stand
with them in pursuit of the healing and
justice. We call on the church family to
be in prayers. I in prayer as we
navigate through the painful season
season with the grace and strength and
strength that comes from our Lord Jesus
Christ on behalf of Nairob Baptist
Church the elders council. So so this is
Moneni Mulandi he’s a pastor at the
Nairobi Baptist church here in Nairobi.
If you check online I had to go and
Google. So there’s someone called Fred
Mccord who said that I met Moni Mulandi
back in salt mulaka. I was not a regular
member though but I remember on the
elders night he preached and sangu
encouraging us as we stepped out into
the world later on as I was getting
married to Ed Makuri. He was one of
those that walked with us preparing us
for life in marriage back in 2013. He
has later become a personal friend, a
pastor and a father to me and a mentor.
He has been there for me at my best, at
my lowest. In my interaction with him,
he always said that he is called to
serve in Nairobi Baptist Church.
Witnessing his installation as a senior
pastor makes me super proud.
Congratulations, sir. I salute you and I
pray that God will use you to shepherd
his people as he sees fit for such a
time as this. So this was uh 5 years ago
and then there’s someone who commented
like and it’s called norm said 5 years
later allegations are sprouting of his
misconduct. So what really happened at
the church that the elders not they did
not mention in that uh h statement. So
listen to this video and you realize
that the pastor that you think that is a
good pastor sometimes they are not good.
So listen to what this uh member of the
church had to say about uh the pastor.
Something unusual happened today in the
Nairobi Baptist church. The elders of
the church came together in protest and
made an announcement of excommunication
of one of the lead pastors in Nairobi
Baptist Church. Now, Pastor Mulandi
Muneni, the person in question, and this
is breaking news, Pastor Mulandi Muneni
is being accused of molesting young boys
in the church.
And from the statement of the elders,
they are still doing an internal
investigation onto the extent of the
wrote that was brought by this one
pastor called pastor Mulandi Muni. Now
for th those of you who know know him,
they know him as a very very charismatic
uh pastor. They know him as a very very
prayerful pastor. They know him as a
very very righteous pastor. But listen
to this. The pastor is in the wind. He’s
nowhere to be found. He’s being pursued.
The moment he’s going to be found, he’s
going to face charges
because the elders say this is unusual.
It has never happened in this type of a
church community. And I know Nairobi
Baptist Church. I know it personally.
And this type of rot is normally not
encouraged in these types of churches.
Now they’re also saying if there is
anybody who has information about this
pastor, they can come forward of course
to the church and present the
whereabouts of this particular pastor
because he’s nowhere to be found. Now
this is very unusual because it got
people from the church especially the
congregants thinking
what is really happening to the church
and this is the question of every
Kenyan.
what is really happening to churches
around Kenya. Stay tuned.
So,
as long as you are in in faith, don’t
let like one situation say that
no, the pastors are good. We also have
those that even the class said that not
all of them will go to heaven. So, we
have good pastors in churches and we
have those who are doing uh shy shed
things like uh you’ve you’ve heard in
the video. So don’t lose your faith.
Keep your faith. God is still God. Yeah.
It doesn’t matter what’s going on like
because it was written at the end times
pastor will be doing this that these
leaders will do doing this. Nation will
be fighting nations. So there’s nothing
that uh uh going to make me like lose my
faith in Christ. For me I’m going to
stand with my faith. For me I’m going to
still serve the Lord with all my heart.
For me I’ll still go to church and to
pray. for me. I’ll still uh give out my
offering because I know the Christ that
I serve is the same today, tomorrow, and
forever. But I will see you in the next
video. Bye-bye.

Church leadership stated its commitment to transparency, integrity and due process, announcing that an independent investigation has been launched to determine the extent and impact of the allegations.
Nairobi Baptist Church Action
“This is a profoundly difficult and painful season for our church community,” the statement continued. “Our foremost concern is the safety, dignity and well-being of the individuals directly impacted. We stand with them in the pursuit of healing and justice.”
While specific details of the allegations have not been disclosed, church leaders urged members to remain in prayer and unity as they navigate the crisis.
“We are resolved to handle the matter firmly, with courage, care, and accountability,” the council stated.
Nairobi Baptist Church is one of Kenya’s most prominent evangelical congregations, with a legacy dating back to the 1950s.
The church said it remains committed to upholding the integrity of its pastoral ministry while offering support to its congregants during the transition.
No comment has yet been made publicly by Rev. Mulandi regarding the church’s announcement.
Reactions on his Dismissal
Reactions have continued to surface online following a public statement by Nairobi Baptist Church confirming the removal of Rev. Munengi Mulandi.
“Let the investigations be done and tabled in public so that justice can be seen to be done,” wrote Richard Kavila. “Painful as it may sound but the body of Christ needs to be transparent in its dealings.”
Henry Imbilu questioned the process used by the church’s leadership. “Could the Elders Council not have suspended him first to investigate the matter before sacking or excommunicating him?” he asked. “It already excommunicated him then now seeking to investigate the allegations further? Just my thoughts.”
Valary Akinyi expressed concern over what she viewed as a harsh judgment.
“So sad for a minister if he is guilty but I also feel like it is too harsh and extra judgmental,” she wrote. “As in, whoever says he isn’t qualified to be a minister — are you the qualifier?”
She also called for compassion. “Perhaps the Council of Elders can walk with him for restoration. Noting that those in top leadership are highly targeted by the enemy, where’s the place of love, helping him to be restored?” she added. “I like how CITAM does it. You don’t need to give these details to the public.”

GOSPEL LIGHT MINUTE X #447 WITH DANIEL WHYTE III
The question is not “Have you joined a church?” or “Are you trying to do your best?” or “Do you have religion?” but “Are you twice-born?” Jesus Christ said in John 3:3, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”.
We enter the physical world by birth. Spiritual life likewise is entered with a birth. We become members of a human family by birth; we become members of the family of God by birth, by being “born again.” There is no other way to get into the human family except by birth, and there is no other way to get into God’s family except by the new birth. Neither education, nor cultivation, nor reformation, nor “turning over a new leaf,” will accomplish this. What is needed is not a new “leaf” but a new “life”! “Ye must be born again” (John 3:7).
By physical birth we become partakers of human nature; by being born again we become “partakers of the divine nature”. A Christian is the product of a divine “begetting”. The second birth is not an improvement of the old nature; it is the imparting of an entirely new nature. The old nature is hopelessly corrupt and incapable of ever being made fit for His presence. The new birth requires a creative act of the Holy Spirit. “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature”.
Simply “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ”. The Bible says in 1 John 5:1, “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God”. The Bible states in John 1:12,13, “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God”.
You are born again, you become a Christian by trusting a Person—receiving a Person. The very moment you do this, the Lord Jesus Christ comes in and life begins!
To “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ” means more than simply believing the historic facts concerning Him. Intellectual belief about Christ is not sufficient. The belief that brings salvation must be “with the heart,” that is, with the whole being. This belief also includes repentance: “Repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ”. The Bible states in Acts 17:30, “God … now commandeth all men every where to repent”.
This is an important question. We know that we are born again by the testimony of God’s Word. God says in John 5:24, “He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life”. Have you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as explained by God’s Word? If so, then you are saved, you are “born again,” you have “passed from death unto life.” God says so! Take God at His Word, and go on your way rejoicing!
You may “belong to a church,” you may be “trying to do the best you can,” you may be “striving to live right.” Your outward life may be the model of moral correctness, and you may be looked up to, honored, revered, and respected. Yet, if you have not been “born again” you are just as lost as if you had never heard of Christ. Yes, you may teach in the Sunday school, read the Bible, sing, shout, “feel happy,” and all the rest—but if you have never been “born again” you are still in your sins and a stranger to the Lord Jesus Christ!.
