Biography and Tribute

Dr. Voddie Baucham, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, entered into the presence of the Lord on September 25, 2025.

For more than thirty years, Voddie devoted his life to teaching, preaching, and shepherding others. He served as Dean of the School of Divinity at African Christian University in Lusaka, Zambia, for ten years, and later as President of Founders Seminary. Known for his ability to make Scripture clear and relevant, he touched countless lives with his preaching, writing, and teaching.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Voddie’s journey to faith began in college, a path that gave him a unique ability to speak both to believers and to skeptics. He held degrees from Houston Baptist University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, with additional post-graduate study at Regent’s Park College, University of Oxford.

Beyond the pulpit and classroom, Voddie was also a voice actor and a skilled Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor, winning numerous tournaments including the 2014 Pan American Championship in his division.

Above all, Voddie was devoted to his family. He and his wife, Bridget, were married for 36 years and built a legacy of faith and love together. He is survived by his wife; his nine children: Voddie Baucham III (Christa Cash-Baucham), Jasmine Holmes (Phillip), Elijah, Asher, Judah, Micah, Safya, Amos, and Simeon Baucham; and his three grandchildren: Walter, Ezra, and Malcolm Holmes. He is also survived by his mother, Frances Baucham, and his siblings: Naiema English, Gebel Baucham (Kahlia), Nicholai Baucham, and Malachi Baucham.

He will be remembered for his faith, his integrity, his devotion to his family, and the countless lives he touched around the world.

A Note from Daniel Whyte III, President of Gospel Light Society International

Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, reflects on the passing of two gifted, charismatic pastors and prophets, Dr. John MacArthur Jr. and Dr. Voddie Baucham Jr. He also notes the impactful ministry of Dr. Tony Evans Sr.

Thank God, Dr. Tony Evans is still with us, but it feels strange that he is not where he has been for the past 50 years: holding up the blood-stained banner and preaching against the sins of the church and the world—including the abomination of sodomy and homosexuality—no matter how the cultural winds have shifted.

Those not called as prophets, evangelists, or pastors may not understand what Whyte is about to say, but those who are truly called will recognize this truth: God calls each of us to preach the Gospel and the whole counsel of God within our different spheres of influence. We may not know each other and may not even desire to. (This is another strange phenomenon that regular church members may not grasp.)

Be that as it may, as a prophet who has been “crying in the wilderness” and feeling “exiled on the Isle of Patmos,” it was comforting and encouraging to know that prophets like John MacArthur were still faithfully preaching the Book, the Blood, and the Blessed Hope. The same holds true for Voddie Baucham and Tony Evans.

Whyte further states that he knows God still has “His 7,000”; he just does not know where they are. Please pray for America and the world, which now face a profound lack of prophets.

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 9:36–38:

“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”

The prayer below was written just before Dr. Lois Evans passed away and before the coronavirus plague emerged. It is called THE LIFE PRAYER. Pray it as the Lord leads you, so you may be prepared for what the Voddie Baucham family and others are going through today. Pray for and support Voddie Baucham’s wife, children, and grandchildren. May God continue to bless their lives.

THE LIFE PRAYER

God, prepare us for good days and bad days.
God, prepare us for celebrations, tribulations, and tragedies.
God, prepare us for weddings and funerals.
God, prepare us for life and death.

In Jesus Christ’s name I pray. Amen.
