A North Carolina megachurch pastor has been ordered to hand over $12,000 in monthly alimony over the next nine years.
Gilbert Andre Thompson Jr., known to congregators at his World Overcomers Christian Church as ‘Pastor Andy,’ filed for divorce on June 10, records show – putting an end to his 33-year union with 57-year-old Dequilla LaShawn.
The pair have been separated for more than a year, the filing first obtained by The Roys Report showed – while also laying bare some of the church-leader’s assets.
Most notable was a $2.8million manse in Mebane that Thompson gets to keep, along with two other properties, valued at $444,000 and $154,000. The latter, a three-bedroom in Rocky Mount, will go to LaShawn – along with $50,000 when the other sells.

Thompson is still on the hook for payments on his four adult children’s cars, however – a 2021 Kia Forte, a 2024 Kia Seltos, a 2016 Jeep Cherokee and a 2013 Cadillac STS. He will also have to fork over a $25,602 debt to the IRS, the agreement showed.

In the 33 years since, Thompson has surfaced as one of the most successful pastors in the country, thanks to a 15,000-member following within his rapidly rising church.
He started it in 2003, after moving his family from Boston, where he grew up and started preaching at age 15.
His first move was starting a television ministry that would eventually make way for his megachurch – a broadcast that featured the Christian pastor proudly preaching.
After 4 months of this, the church in Durham was launched – and Thompson has yet to look back.
He has penned several books about faith, started media campaigns, and is the owner of a communications firm, Thompson Communications Group, LLC, which he will also keep under the terms of the split.
His church, meanwhile, claims to be the fastest-growing in America on its website, which, in conjunction with the pastor’s television program ‘The Truth,’ impacts more than a million people weekly, the divorce agreement stated.
Court records in the state, meanwhile, show how the church and pastor have faced two negligence lawsuits since 2017 including a contract dispute and a complaint involving a minor. No further details were provided.
Moreover, the extent of Thompson’s wealth was hinted at in the newly unveiled divorce document, despite it still remaining largely unknown. He was ordered to hand over a total of $1.3 million in alimony, broken down into the monthly payments.
For perspective, figures like Alex Rodriguez and Kanye West – who each have a net worth of around $400million – each shell out well over $100,000 in child support payments each month.
Thompson’s payments clock in at a little over ten percent of those, suggesting his net worth is still somewhere in the millions.
Moreover, unlike figures like West, his kids are already grown – but that did not stop him from buying a car for each of them, at the collective cost of at least $100,000, according to their respective evaluations on Kelley Blue Book.
The terms of the divorce will see him ‘retain ownership’ of all four cars, while LaShawn will be allowed to keep her 2010 Kia Soul – the cheapest car of the lot.
He will also keep ownership of his Ford 150, which has an MSRP of around $67,00.
Aside from the fleet of cars, both parties will also retain their respective businesses, with LaShawn the owner of a nonprofit started after her co-pioneering of the largest church in Durham, in 2012.
Dubbed Projects of Hope, the firm’s purpose, as stated on its website, is to carry out missions to places around the world such as Kenya, while accepting donations in the process.
Thompson, on the other hand, will retain the rights to his communications firm, which stands separate from the business surrounding his church, which purchased the 14,000-square-foot home where the family once resided in 2018, for $1.5million.
They had lived there since – at least until March of last year when the pair separated.
According to Zillow, the home is now worth close to $3million, thanks to amenities like a cobblestone driveway, infinity pool, a gym, theatre, and outdoor hot tub.
The home is reminiscent of a villa that might be found in the South of France, rather than rural North Carolina.
It boasts four bedrooms and six baths, as well as stunning statues, gardens and artwork that all emanate affluence.
The compound is also located next to its own private pond, and is surrounded by several lush acres of idyllic scenery.

The lavish lifestyle of a North Carolina megachurch pastor, including a $2.8 million dollar home and a $1.3 million alimony agreement, has been revealed in recently filed divorce papers.
The pastor, Gilbert Andre Thompson, Jr., who pastors the 15,000-member World Overcomers Christian Church in Durham, N.C., was granted an “absolute” divorce on July 1 from his wife of 33 years, Dequilla LaShawn. Thompson, also known as “Pastor Andy,” filed for the divorce on June 10.
The two-page divorce decree showed the couple were legally separated in March 2023. An “absolute” divorce is granted after a couple have been separated for at least a year and a day, according to a North Carolina government website.
The $1.3 million alimony payment is broken down to $12,000 a month for nine years, according to the settlement agreement and property settlement.
A woman who identified herself as a church employee who oversees media inquiries politely hung up the phone when questioned about the Thompson’s divorce.
The property agreement spells out Pastor Andy Thompson will assume the couple’s 58 acres in Lolly Lane, in Mebane, N.C. which is located to the north of their current home.
Public records show the Thompsons’ residence is a 14,000-square foot, four-bedroom six-bathroom house in Mebane, North Carolina. According to published real estate records, the home is equipped with a gym, theatre seating, an infinity pool, and a hot tub. The house is worth $2.8 million, according to Zillow.
North Carolina land records show World Overcomers Christian bought the Thompson’s residence from 2020 properties LLC in 2018 for $1.53 million. The church turned around and deeded it over to another non-profit organization, Restore Community Development, in 2021. Land records show no money was exchanged in this transaction.

When the 58-acreage is sold, Dequilla Thompson will receive only $50,000, according to the property agreement.
The agreement also granted Dequilla Thompson the couple’s modest rental house, a 1,600 square foot house, estimated around $154,000 in Rocky Mount, NC.
As part of the agreement, Andy Thompson assumed a $25,602 IRS debt.
His four adult children’s automobiles are in his name, including a 2021 Kia Forte, 2024 Kia Seltos, a 2016 Jeep Cherokee and a 2013 Cadillac STS. He was also responsible for payments and expenses associated with the Forte, Seltos and the Cherokee and his personal vehicle, a Ford F-150, while Dequilla Thomson was awarded a 2010 Kia Soul.
Dequilla Thompson retained control of her business, Projects of Home Inc., and Andy Thompson retained control of his business Thompson Communications Group, LLC.
Touted on Pastor Thompson’s personal website as marriage counselors, Andy and Lashawn Thompson advertised the “wisdom and knowledge” that “helped them retain ‘Real Love’ for nearly 30 years.” In a July 28 sermon, a wedding ring was not visible on Thompson’s left hand.
Andy Thompson has authored two books — “Real Love Dating” and “Real Love Marriage,” according to his website.
Overcomers Christian Church was established in 2003 and boasts it “is one of the fastest growing churches in America. Its website also claims that God is using Andy Thompson “to impact over 1 million people each week through his innovative, in your face, faith filled television program called ‘The Truth.’”
He is the founder of Overcomers Christian Church fellowship of pastors and church leaders.

This is the “Chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #447 titled, “The Big Question” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.
“HAVE YOU BEEN BORN AGAIN?”
The question is not “Have you joined a church?” or “Are you trying to do your best?” or “Do you have religion?” but “Are you twice-born?” Jesus Christ said in John 3:3, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”.
We enter the physical world by birth. Spiritual life likewise is entered with a birth. We become members of a human family by birth; we become members of the family of God by birth, by being “born again.” There is no other way to get into the human family except by birth, and there is no other way to get into God’s family except by the new birth. Neither education, nor cultivation, nor reformation, nor “turning over a new leaf,” will accomplish this. What is needed is not a new “leaf” but a new “life”! “Ye must be born again” (John 3:7).
A New Nature Needed
By physical birth we become partakers of human nature; by being born again we become “partakers of the divine nature”. A Christian is the product of a divine “begetting”. The second birth is not an improvement of the old nature; it is the imparting of an entirely new nature. The old nature is hopelessly corrupt and incapable of ever being made fit for His presence. The new birth requires a creative act of the Holy Spirit. “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature”.
Not “Trying” But “Trusting”
“Trying to follow Christ” is not Christianity. Christianity is not imitation of Christ, it is the indwelling of Christ. Christianity is not trying to do anything. It is trusting Christ Who has done it all! He has “finished the work” and there is nothing left to do but simply to receive and trust Him. He shed His precious blood on the cross and the work is all done once and forever! Cease trying and begin trusting! Believers will progressively become more and more like Christ, but by His power, not their own.
What Must I Do To Be Saved?
Simply “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ”. The Bible says in 1 John 5:1, “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God”. The Bible states in John 1:12,13, “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God”.
You are born again, you become a Christian by trusting a Person—receiving a Person. The very moment you do this, the Lord Jesus Christ comes in and life begins!
What Is Meant By “Believe”?
To “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ” means more than simply believing the historic facts concerning Him. Intellectual belief about Christ is not sufficient. The belief that brings salvation must be “with the heart,” that is, with the whole being. This belief also includes repentance: “Repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ”. The Bible states in Acts 17:30, “God … now commandeth all men every where to repent”.
The faith which saves, then, includes the necessity to repent, and to receive Christ as Saviour and Lord, to rest upon Him alone for salvation. It means to trust Him so utterly and completely that, if He should fail, there would be no hope at all!
May I Know That I Am Born Again?
This is an important question. We know that we are born again by the testimony of God’s Word. God says in John 5:24, “He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life”. Have you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as explained by God’s Word? If so, then you are saved, you are “born again,” you have “passed from death unto life.” God says so! Take God at His Word, and go on your way rejoicing!
One Final Word
You may “belong to a church,” you may be “trying to do the best you can,” you may be “striving to live right.” Your outward life may be the model of moral correctness, and you may be looked up to, honored, revered, and respected. Yet, if you have not been “born again” you are just as lost as if you had never heard of Christ. Yes, you may teach in the Sunday school, read the Bible, sing, shout, “feel happy,” and all the rest—but if you have never been “born again” you are still in your sins and a stranger to the Lord Jesus Christ!.
If you want to be saved from the wrath to come and from an eternity in Hell, and if you believe that Jesus Christ suffered, bled, and died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead and you are willing to trust Jesus Christ with all of your heart so you can go to Heaven, please pray with me what is called the sinner’s prayer: Holy Father God, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I admit that I have sinned against You and that I have broken Your Ten Commandments. I have lied before. I have stolen things before. I have lusted after people and things before. I have dishonored and disobeyed my parents. I have taken Your holy Name in vain. For Jesus Christ’s sake, please have mercy and grace upon my soul and forgive me of all of my sins, my failures, and my faults. As I now believe in Your Holy Son the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that He suffered, bled, and died on the cross for my sins, was buried and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to repent of my sins past. Help me to turn from my old, evil life and follow You in the new life. For it is in Your Name I pray. Amen.
