Thur, June 22, 2017: Trump hosts lawmakers for Congressional Picnic at WH

Lawmakers took a rare break from bitter partisan politics and went to the White House Thursday evening for a good old-fashioned picnic.

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump hosted the Congressional Picnic, a bipartisan, annual event on the South Lawn aimed at bringing members of Congress, their families and members of the administration together for a casual, lighthearted evening.

“We’ve gotten to know many of you over the last weeks and months, and developed many friendships with politicians,” Trump said in brief remarks to lawmakers. “Can you believe it? Some really great people, I have to say, mostly. Mostly. A couple of bad ones, but that’s OK.”

Thur, June 22, 2017: Trump meets with IOC on Los Angeles’ 2024 Olympics bid

While Los Angeles is all but assured of hosting an upcoming Olympics, the city’s bid to stage a Summer Games has an outspoken — if controversial — booster willing to lobby on its behalf.

President Trump met with Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, on Thursday at the White House. The meeting was closed to the press and details of their visit were not immediately available.

“President Trump confirmed his support for the L.A. candidature,” Mark Adams, an IOC spokesman, said at the conclusion of the visit.

While Trump has signaled his willingness to support Los Angeles’s efforts, Thursday’s meeting marked the most significant discussion he has had to date with Olympic officials.

Thur, June 22, 2017: Trump holds meeting on new technologies

U.S. President Donald Trump offered support for emerging technologies including unmanned aerial vehicles and next-generation wireless networks in a meeting on Thursday with the chiefs of AT&T Inc and General Electric Co and other business leaders.

The White House brought together venture capitalists and executives from the telecommunications and drone, or unmanned aerial system, industries to discuss how the government can speed technologies to market.
