THE “APOCALYPTIC SCENES” OF HURRICANE IDALIA: A Fisherman Michael Bobbitt who Chose to Stay and Help Describes “Apocalyptic Scenes” from Hurricane Idalia
Hurricane Idalia has brought “apocalyptic scenes” already as a massive storm surge has smashed Florida’s Cedar Key region ahead of the catastrophic Hurricane hitting in the next few minutes.
A brave clam fisherman who chose to stay behind to help rescue people who have refused to leave has said of the beautiful coastal area “it’s a near apocalyptic scene here.”
Michael Bobbitt, a local property appraiser and clam fisherman who decided to stay on Cedar Key to help rescue those who refused to leave, spoke just after 6am local time and said the water has “completely swallowed our boat ramps.” It has engulfed Dock Street, and First Street where the historic Cedar Keys downtown begins.
It is fast racing further inland. It comes as a massive storm surge has already hit Florida, with Hurricana Idalia set to hit and make landfallwith 130mph winds at any point in the next few minutes.
Mr Bobbitt said that he felt the “worst case scenario” predictions of storm surge in Cedar Key would come true.
