Vice President Kamala Harris gave dozens of migrants the cold shoulder after two busloads were dumped outside her DC residence on Christmas Eve – one of the coldest nights on record.

The group stood outside in the freezing 18 degree temperatures with some only wearing T-shirts, CNN reported. Some were given blankets and were placed on another bus headed to a local church.

It remains unclear who is responsible for sending the Christmas Eve migrants to the Naval Observatory on Saturday night in dangerously cold temperatures, but Texas Governor Greg Abbott admitted he had sent buses of migrants north, including to a location outside Harris’ home, back in September.

Late Saturday night, three buses of asylum seekers sent by Abbott were headed to New York but had to redirect due to the weather, CNN’s Noah Gray tweeted.

The tweet said: ‘Amy Fischer with Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network tells me the 3 busses [sic] of asylum seekers were sent by Texas & originally headed for NY but “shifted to DC because of the weather,” busses [sic] picking up were from DC govt- the migrants were bussed to a DC church.’

Three hours earlier, Gray said that one man told him that he ‘traveled two days from Texas and he came from Ecuador.’

‘He said he was happy to be here,’ Gray said. ‘Bus includes children and women- moved to another bus by aid workers on ground after standing outside briefly in 14 degrees.’

Early on Saturday night, an administrative official said two buses with migrants were transported to local shelters, but more buses had arrived and the migrants were dropped outside of the vice president’s residence at Naval Observatory.

Tatiana Laborde, managing director of the international humanitarian nonprofit SAMU First Response, said the DC community has been welcoming buses from Texas since the migrants started arriving in April. She explained that freezing temps and the Christmas Eve holiday ‘is no different.’

 ‘We are always here welcoming folks with open arms,’ Laborde added.

Abbott is not the only politician who has been a staunch opponent of Biden’s immigration policies.  Three other Republican governors have also shown their disdain and have either bused or flown migrants north this year in a show of defiance, CNN reports.

On Friday, border patrol reported having over 233,000 migrant encounters in November – the highest ever November total and a 33 percent increase from the same time last year.

Encounters are counted as a combination of border patrol field workers and border patrol agents sending away people trying to cross the border or detaining them after entering illegally.

The Biden administration is under increasing pressure to solve the crisis, and has asked the Supreme Court to delay the end of Covid-era Title 42 – which makes it easier for the US to expel undocumented migrants – until after the holidays.

The Biden-Harris team is currently facing scrutiny over the chaos at the US-Mexico border as thousands of migrants are expected to try and seek asylum or sneak through.

 

Desperate migrants huddled at bus stops and propped up makeshift tents in freezing temperatures in El Paso, after making their long and treacherous journeys to Texas.

After fighting off looting cartels, walking through hazardous jungles, and cramming on overcrowded fishing boats, many of the exhausted asylum seekers told DailyMail.com they were relieved to have made it to the US before the imminent end of the Covid-era rules.

Title 42 was set to expire Wednesday, but Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily halted its end and the Biden administration later asked the Supreme Court to keep it in place until December 27. The Supreme Court is yet to respond.

Migrants’ haste to cross with Title 42 in place may seem contradictory, because the policy makes it easier for the US to expel undocumented migrants. But many anticipated that the lifting of it would make crossing more difficult, at least temporarily, due to increased migrant numbers and military presence at the border

More than 400 National Guard troops were deployed Tuesday before the policy’s expected end, causing dozens more asylum seekers to make a break for the border to avoid grim clashes.

Officials said over the weekend 2,500 migrants were arriving in El Paso daily, a figure that could rise to ‘4,000, 5,000, maybe 6,000.’

Many believe that number could be even higher when Title 42 ends, with Axios reporting 14,000 daily crossings could occur.
