Ime Udoka’s affair was reportedly uncovered by the husband of the staffer he was involved with after he overheard a conversation.
The NBA hasn’t seen a fall from grace as swift and abrupt as the one Ime Udoka has been experiencing for a long time. Udoka was the man that had led the Celtics to their first NBA Finals in over a decade, bringing the best out of a unit that had been struggling to improve for a while before he came. But all his accomplishments as the coach have come undone in the last week as reports of an affair have emerged, leading to a year-long suspension.
When the news broke, many came out in Udoka’s support, suggesting that the punishment was far harsher than necessary. The reports that first came out all said that the relationship had been a consensual one, and as such, people were under the impression that the suspension was too long. However, as more details have started to emerge, the situation seems much messier than anticipated, with Matt Barnes among those to withdraw his support for Udoka after learning some of the details.
This has led to rampant speculation among NBA fans, many of whom have been discussing which Celtics employee it could have been. Brad Stevens condemned the speculation, but the interest in the story is unlikely to die soon, and there were reports recently suggesting that the employee in question was someone that handled travel arrangements for Udoka, as well as his fiancee, Nia Long.
