“This is the most horrible, terrible thing that anybody could go through. I still am in denial myself,” said an El Paso, Texas father about the death of his 5-year-old daughter.
Manuel Canales’ daughter, Emily Canales, died on Jan. 13, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Her death was ruled a homicide with multiple blunt force injuries being listed as the cause by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office in Colorado on June 14.
“I don’t know the details because I refuse to learn them you know. They’re too painful for me, they’re too bad for me. I’m still in denial, I still don’t really believe that this is really going on,” said Manuel Canales.
The young girl’s mother, 27-year-old Brianne Escamilla, and her boyfriend, 26-year-old Matthew Urias, have been charged with first-degree murder, police said.
