Frazer Memorial Methodist Church in Montgomery is now officially no longer part of the United Methodist Church.

The 7,000-member Frazer Church is the most prominent Alabama congregation to leave the United Methodist Church and was once known as Alabama’s largest congregation in the denomination.

The final step happened this week at the meeting of the Alabama-West Florida Conference in Montgomery, which concluded Wednesday.

“That completes the process,” said Mary Catherine Phillips, director of communications for the Alabama-West Florida Conference. “That was the final step.”

The conference voted Tuesday to approve disaffiliation for Frazer Church and several other congregations.

In addition to Frazer, the conference also approved disaffiliation for Pentecost United Methodist Church, Mt. Hilliard United Methodist Church and Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church.

There are seven more pending disaffiliations: Vernon United Methodist Church, Poplar Head United Methodist Church, Canoe United Methodist Church, Holly Grove United Methodist Church, Owens Chapel United Methodist Church, Warrington United Methodist Church and New Bethel United Methodist Church.
