April Simpkins (right and with her daughter, inset) received a final message from her daughter former Miss USA winner Cheslie Kryst, 30, (left) before she leaped to her death in New York City. She revealed on Red Table Talk that she read the message an hour after her daughter sent it, as she was in an exercise class. ‘By the time I had read the text, an hour had passed.’ The mother revealed she couldn’t read past that for a long time. She also revealed this was Kryst’s second suicide attempt, having attempted one in her early 20s. Simpkins also said she knew her daughter was suffering from depression, but ‘didn’t know the severity of it.’ Kryst won Miss USA in 2019 and had publicly advocated for mental health and therapy before her death.
