According to Mail Online, Hundreds of people filled the streets of downtown Minneapolis on Saturday to demand justice for Amir Locke, after body cam footage released by the Minneapolis Police Department showed an officer shoot and kill Locke during a no-knock warrant earlier this week. More than 1,000 protesters, who gathered outside the Hennepin County Government Center around 3 p.m., also called for the resignation of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and officer Mark Hanneman. Hanneman, who was named in public records as the officer who shot Locke, was hired by the department in 2015. ‘No officer goes into a dangerous setting like this wanting to use a weapon,’ the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis said in a statement Saturday. ‘That decision was not taken lightly, and the impact of the use of deadly force will affect these officers, their families, and the family of Mr. Locke for the rest of their lives.’ The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said the police’s practices called for the immediate termination of Hanneman. ‘A life was taken, which demands transparency, but perhaps more importantly, accountability,’ the association said Saturday. On Friday, the National Guard was activated in the state of Minnesota in order to help the Twin Cities in case of any civil unrest following the death of Locke in Minneapolis and the ongoing federal trial in St. Paul involving three officers in George Floyd’s death. Locke, 22, was fatally shot by a Minneapolis police officer on Wednesday, as cops executed a no-knock search warrant. Locke’s father, Andre, spoke to a crowd Saturday, ‘This is not easy, to have to bury your son,’ according to video posted to Twitter. He said Locke’s mother was ‘so overwhelmed with grief, disbelief, sorrow, everything that you could imagine that a mother feels when she loses her baby.’ Protesters also called for Hanneman, the officer who shot Locke, to be prosecuted.

When they were finished beating him, the attackers casually walked away, leaving their victim lying on a crosswalk. The video continued recording as an approaching car began blaring its horn before running over the victim’s head with a sickening thump. He miraculously survived. It happened as New York City continues grappling with rising crime rates. Last month, it recorded a 38.5 per cent increase in overall crime compared with the same period in January 2021. Robbery was up 33.1 per cent year over year, grand larceny spiked 58.1 per cent, and shootings increased 31.6 per cent. Homicides fell 15.2 per cent year-over-year. Police said the assault at 116th Street and First Avenue stemmed from an argument between the victim, 31, and a man and woman.

According to PEOPLE, The Bronzeville community in Chicago is mourning this week after police identified a woman tragically killed after getting caught in the middle of gunfire. Bobbye Johnson, a 55-year-old grandmother and local gospel singer, was leaving Chase Bank on Tuesday afternoon at 3500 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr when Victor Brown, a security guard at a nearby liquor store, allegedly grabbed another guard’s gun and wantonly fired 20 shots down the street, intending to hit a man who had just shot him in the leg during an argument. Instead, police said Brown’s bullets fatally struck Johnson in the chest. The 34-year-old is facing one felony count of first-degree murder and one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon in Johnson’s death, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said in a media conference Friday following Brown’s arrest. Victor Brown was hospitalized before being taken to Cook County Jail for the injury to his thigh. “Chicago Police Department sincerely hopes the arrest and charging of the offender responsible, Victor Brown, who is charged with first-degree murder, brings some small measure of closure to her family during this unimaginable time,” Supt. Brown told reporters.

According to ABC 13, a Black Houston doctor is suing Chase bank for racial discrimination after she was told her $16,000 paycheck was fraudulent when she tried to open an account. Dr. Malika Mitchell-Stewart, who began working at the Valley Oaks Medical Group in Houston, said she tried depositing her first paycheck of $16,000 at the bank, only to be met with skepticism as employees questioned the validity of her check and her job. According to the lawsuit filed against the bank and two employees, Mitchell-Stewart was ‘immediately treated like a criminal’ when she walked into the First Colony Branch in Sugar Land, Texas. ‘It was an unfortunate situation. They took my special moment away,’ Mitchell-Stewart told ABC 13. ‘I felt like a criminal. I’ve never done anything wrong.’ JPMorgan Chase has apologized for the incident and said they will be conducting an investigation on the incident.

According to Morning Star News, Islamic extremists on Saturday (Jan. 29) stopped an evangelist on his way to participate in a debate about Christianity and Islam in Kampala, Uganda and beat him unconscious, he said. Charles Kamya, 43, said he was about 300 meters from the open-air debate site in the Bwaise area of Kampala when two men stopped his car. “I stopped my car only to be ambushed by six other Muslims in Islamic attire who resurfaced from the bush at around midday,” Kamya told Morning Star News from his hospital bed. He said one of the assailants told him, “You have been terrorizing our religion. Today Allah has called you, and you are going to meet him.” “Some beat me badly while others cut me with some objects, and I lost a lot of blood as they pulled me out of my car and threw me out,” he said. A blow to the head with an iron bar left him unconscious for about two hours, he said. A passerby found him in a pool of blood and called police. “They arrived immediately and saved my life,” Kamya said. “The attackers did not damage my car or take anything inside the car. They only wanted to destroy my life.”

According to Daily Mail, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been branded a hypocrite after old video resurfaced of the former wrester giving a racist impression mocking the Chinese language. Twitter users posted clips of the video after Johnson pulled his support for controversial podcaster Joe Rogan – just three days after he had back the host – when the Spotify star was called out for his repeated use of the N-word. ‘I was not aware of his N word use prior to my comments, but now I’ve become educated to his complete narrative. Learning moment for me,’ Johnson, 49, tweeted Friday after author and political activist Don Winslow called out the action movie star for his support of Rogan. Rogan, 54, has been under fire in recent weeks from progressives and others calling on the streaming service to cancel the Joe Rogan Experience host’s $100million deal for spreading misinformation regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. On Saturday, Rogan responded to an old clip that resurfaced from his podcast in which he used the N-word over 20 times, apologizing and calling it ‘the most regretful and shameful thing I’ve ever had to talk about publicly.’ ‘It looks horrible. Even to me,’ Rogan said in the video. ‘I know that to most people, there is no context where a white person is ever allowed to say that word, never mind publicly on a podcast, and I agree with that now. I haven’t said it in years.’ Johnson had rallied around Rogan after the podcaster took to social media last Sunday to speak out against allegations of ‘spreading COVID misinformation’ on his Spotify show. In response to Rogan’s video, Johnson wrote last Tuesday: ‘Great stuff here brother. Perfectly articulated. Look forward to coming on one day and breaking out the tequila with you.’ Spotify has removed 113 episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience – with most episodes that have been taken down recorded before his recent COVID-19 controversy and involving far-right commentators.
