The mother of two shot dead by her Illinois state trooper husband in a murder-suicide was trying to divorce him, a friend said.
Amanda Calo, 31, was already separated from her husband, Antonio Alvarez, 30, when they were both found dead in a car in Chicago on Monday, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Calo, a pre-K teacher, was in the middle of her divorce and ready to start a “new chapter,” her childhood friend Kate Garza told the outlet.
The couple, who had two young children together, were having issues, and Calo had told her family she was leaving her husband, unnamed relatives told local TV station WLS.
It wasn’t immediately clear how long they had been married.
