Gavin Newsom on Thursday signed into law a bill returning land taken from a black family in 1924 to their descendants. The land, purchased in 1912 for $1,250, is now worth around $72 million. Newsom said he hopes the return of the land to its rightful owners will serve as a ‘catalyst’ for change. The Bruces have not said what they will do with the land.
