Two Christian Spiritual Practices You Should be Engaging With Now!

Christian meditation isn’t something that’s talked about much these days. In fact, some Christians may not believe meditation to be rooted in Christian tradition, but it is!

In April 2021, Pope Francis shared:

“We all need to meditate, to reflect, to discover ourselves, it is a human dynamic.” He continues, “meditating means going to the encounter with Jesus, guided by a phrase or a word from Holy Scripture.” For us Christians, the Pope concluded, “meditating is a way of encountering Jesus. And in this way, only in this way, can we find ourselves.”

Ralph Miller of Christ Lives in You, inspired by the words of Pope Francis, offers followers of Christ an opportunity to engage in the practice of Christian meditation through guided meditations based on Biblical verses that can be viewed on his YouTube channel.

For example, let’s look at Mark 12:33. This Bible verse about love is a great example of how Christians can use the Bible to meditate on the word of God. Here’s a sample:

Lectio Divina Mark 12:33

Now, meditation is just one Christian spiritual practice you should be engaging with, but we promised two, so here’s the other…

Lectio Divina.

If you don’t know what that is, Pope Benedict explains it like this:

“The ancient tradition of Lectio Divina: the diligent reading of Sacred Scripture accompanied by prayer brings about that intimate dialogue in which the person reading hears God who is speaking, and in praying, responds to him with trusting openness of heart (cf. Dei Verbum, n. 25). If it is effectively promoted, this practice will bring to the Church – I am convinced of it – a new spiritual springtime.

Inspired by these words from Pope Benedict, Christ Lives in You also offers guided Lectio Divina practice through its YouTube channel to help bring about this ‘new spiritual springtime.’

Here’s an example of a Lectio Divina practice:
