The interim advice published by No10’s top scientists says all over-50s could be offered a third ‘booster’ Covid jab in September. But ministers are yet to give the plans the green light. Sources on the Joint Committee of Vaccinations and Immunisations (JCVI) said data showed the vaccines sparked immunity that lasted at least six months in the ‘majority’ of cases. But there are fears this could wane before winter, running the risk of a surge of Covid hospitalisations and deaths. It comes after Britain recorded more than 20,000 cases for the third day in a row today, but deaths continued to fall in a sure sign the vaccines are working.
