Second Teen Charged in Shooting of British Black Lives Matter Activist Sasha Johnson

An 18-year-old man was charged Friday in the shooting of British Black Lives Matter activist Sasha Johnson.

Devonte Brown is charged with conspiracy to murder, police said. Cameron Deriggs, also 18, was hit with the same charge shortly after the May 23 shooting in London.

Johnson, a 27-year-old mother of two, remains in critical condition, according to Metropolitan Police. She was struck in the head and has undergone two surgeries, the BBC reported.

A founding member of the U.K.’s Taking the Initiative Party, Johnson is a prominent activist who helped lead protests in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd. Taking the Initiative has been called Britain’s first Black-led political party.
