If You’ve Been to India Within the Past Two Weeks, You Are Banned From Entering Cyprus

Cypriot hotel and other tourism-related business owners say they’d like to see the COVID-19 pandemic-induced uncertainty over travel bookings to the tourism-reliant island nation winding down by July when they’re hoping authorities in Cyprus’ main markets including the U.K., Russia, Germany and the Scandinavian countries will make it easier for their citizens to travel abroad. To prevent the spreading of the India COVID-19 variant in Cyprus, all who have been to India within the past two weeks will not be allowed to enter the country of Cyprus. Only those citizens of Cyprus and their families, European Union citizens, and foreign nationals living permanently in Cyprus will be exempt. But to qualify for that exemption, they must undergo the PCR test 72 hours before boarding their flight to Cyprus, and either be tested on arrival or under-go a 10 day quarantine at a designated place. The Cypriot government will foot the cost of the quarantine.

The presence of the India variant in the Cypriot community has already been confirmed, as has the U.K. Variant which outnumbers the India variant. More than 40% of Cyprus’ population has been fully vaccinated.
