A vigil was held Saturday night for Sade Payne, a young woman gunned down near a city bus stop more than a week ago.
As investigators try to get to the bottom of it all, her family is calling for answers and asking why it all happened. They are also hoping with a call to action they can get justice.
“She was not the 54th homicide. She was a sister, she was a daughter, she was an entrepreneur. She was a leader, she graduated at the top of her class. She was much more than a number,” said Ray Reggins, Sade Payne’s friend.
Family and friends are now heartbroken after 33-year-old Sade Payne was shot and killed.
“She was strong, very intelligent, very giving, very caring, just nurturing,” said Shantay Payne, Sade’s sister.
Police say Payne died after she was shot near a neighborhood bus stop more than a week ago at the corner of Maize Road and Zebulon Avenue.
“She was a young scholar. She went to Ohio State, she started her own business, she was a loving person,” said Payne.
She was found partially clothed and died a short time later at a nearby hospital. At first, the police didn’t know who she was and identified her as a Jane Doe.
“This wasn’t a random act of violence,” said Reggins.
Those closest to her now want more answers and justice as police continue to look for her shooter.
“We want justice for Sade. Sade would do anything for any and everybody that came her way,” said Reggins.
