Popeyes Launches Cajun Flounder Fish Sandwich Ahead of Lent

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is releasing a different kind of sandwich ahead of Lent.

The fast-food New Orleans-style chicken chain announced that the new Cajun Flounder Sandwich will be available in restaurants and for delivery nationwide starting Thursday, Feb. 11. It costs $4.49.

Popeyes said the fish sandwich is similar to its popular fried chicken sandwich, which debuted in August 2019 and started the Chicken Sandwich War. The fried filet is served on the same buttery toasted brioche bun with pickles on the poultry sandwich.

Ash Wednesday is Feb. 17 and marks the start of Lenten season and several restaurants annually aim to reel in customers who observe with a smorgasbord of seafood specials.

The fish fare is most prevalent on the Fridays leading up to Easter, a time when many Catholics forgo meat. Lent is a six-week period of fasting, self-sacrifice and prayer observed by Christians each year to prepare for the celebration of Easter, when they believe Christ rose from the dead.
