A suicidal mother took her toddler daughter for pizza to celebrate her birthday – then shot the toddler dead, before turning the gun on herself, police say. Kanisha Richardson took daughter Ava to a Chuck E Cheese in Bridgeton, Missouri, for an early birthday party earlier this month.
The mother and daughter were last seen alive last Monday, with a relative reporting them missing on Wednesday. Their corpses were found in a parked car on Saturday, near a gun, with police investigator Major Mark Mossotti telling the St Louis Post-Dispatch: ‘Everything points to a murder-suicide.’
Relative Niki Harris took to Facebook in the wake of the tragedy to reveal that Ava had been due to spend Monday – the day of her fourth birthday – at Walt Disney World in Florida.
Announcing a vigil on her Facebook profile Monday, she wrote: ‘FAMILY & FRIENDS WE WILL CELEBRATE AVA’S 4TH BIRTHDAY TODAY AT CHUCK E CHEESE (SOUTH COUNTY) WHERE HER MOM LAST TOOK HER TO HAVE FUN.’
Earlier the same day, Harris wrote: ‘WE GAVE YOU A PARTY JUST BC YOU WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN FLORIDA BUT I GUESS GOD KNEW SOMETHING ELSE SMH.’
Missouri’s Highway Patrol issued an endangered missing person alert, saying that Richardson had spoken about killing herself, and may have been armed with a gun.
No suicide note was found in the car, with investigators working to try and establish what may have driven Richardson to the alleged murder suicide.
