Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill announced Wednesday that he has completed his investigation of a former Indiana abortion doctor who had thousands fetal remains hidden on his property.
According to a news release, authorities discovered a total of 2,411 medically preserved fetal remains in the possession of Dr. Ulrich Klopfer.
His family made the discovery after Klopfer died of natural causes in September 2019 t age 79. The bulk of the remains were located in the garage next to his home in Will County, Illinois.
Local law enforcement went to the home and initially found 2,246 remains, along with thousands of health records from Klopfer’s medical practice, according to the investigation report completed by Hill’s office.
Another 165 fetal remains were found in the trunk of one of his vehicles along with thousands more health records.
All of the remains appear to be from Klopfer’s medical practice in Indiana from 2000 to 2003, officials said. Because the remains were in poor condition and the health records were degraded, it was not possible to independently verify the identities of the individual fetal remains.
Illinois law enforcement conducted a thorough search of Klopfer’s property over several days and found no clues as to why Klopfer kept these fetal remains, officials said.
