“The Last of Us Part II” won the biggest prize of the night at the 2020 Game Awards.

In addition to game of the year, Naughty Dog’s hit sequel won several other big awards throughout the night, including best direction, narrative, action/adventure game, audio design and performance for Laura Bailey. Other big winners were Square Enix’s “Final Fantasy VII Remake” (best score and sound and RPG), “Hades” (best indie game and action game) and “Among Us” (best multiplayer game and mobile game).

The 2020 ceremony aired live from Los Angeles, London and Tokyo from three in-studio, audience-less locations. Speaking to Variety in September, host Geoff Keighley said they “would never normally be able to have three cities live” — which inspired the big-scale idea.

“This is a unique year of circumstances, so let’s try that. I think it sends a really great message, and I think it’s what I’d like to do more of,” he said.

The show featured musical performances from Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and appearances from special guests including Brie Larson, Gal Gadot, JackSepticEye, John David Washington, Josef Fares, Keanu Reeves, Nolan North, Reggie Fils-Aime, Stephen A. Smith, Tom Holland, Troy Baker and Christopher Nolan, who announced the final award.

And, as in past years, the ceremony also had a number of big reveals and exclusive looks. Those included the addition of “Final Fantasy VII’s” Sephiroth as the next “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” fighter, a tease of the next “Dragon Age” and a look at the latest “Among Us” map.
