PODCAST: Beware of “Scholars” Who Do Not Believe the Bible Is God’s Word, Part 2 (Reasons to Believe #198 with Daniel Whyte III)

Welcome to The Reasons to Believe podcast, episode #198. My name is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International.

Our Reasons to Believe Scripture Passage for today is Matthew 11:15. It reads, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

Our Reasons to Believe quote for today is from Smith Wigglesworth. He said, “There are four principles we need to maintain: First, read the Word of God. Second, consume the Word of God until it consumes you. Third believer the Word of God. Fourth, act on the Word.”

Today we are continuing the topic of scripture, its inerrancy, infallibility and inspiration using “Our God-breathed Book: The Bible – The Verbally Inspired, Eternal, Inerrant Word of God” by John R. Rice. Our Reasons to Believe powerpoint today comes from Chapter 2: “Beware of “Scholars” Who Do Not Believe the Bible Is God’s Word” Part 2.

A Bias Against the Bible Blinds the Unbeliever

The heart attitude tends to dictate the mental choice. There are many illustrations of how one’s preference influences one’s judgment.

For example, the American Cancer Society and the American Medical Society have proved beyond any reasonable doubt that cigarettes tend to bring lung cancer and that several times as many heavy smokers have lung cancer as non-smokers. They say that scientific research definitely connects smoking with increased heart disease and other causes of death.

But at great cost the tobacco companies have set up a foundation to study the same problem. And they keep reporting that a causal relation between cigarette smoking and lung cancer is not yet proved! Why? Because tobacco companies and those who live on the sale of the poison weed do not want to see that they are helping kill their victims. I do not mean that these tobacco men are wholly and maliciously lying. Rather, they deceive themselves and then they hope to deceive others. Men do not willingly believe that they ought to give up their livelihood, give up their profits, give up what they want. They choose to believe what they would rather believe. Men who continue in sin and prefer sin do not willingly consider how bad is their sin.

So scientists, paid by the liquor industry, do not find that about half of the fatal traffic accidents are caused by drink or that a great percentage of major crimes involve drink as a factor. But unbiased police and government agencies do so find.

The fact that the heart, opposed to light, does not get the light is the reason Jesus gave for teaching in parables.

In Matthew 13:9-15, we are told:

“Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.”

Jesus said it was true in Isaiah’s day and it was true in our Lord’s ministry also that “this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.” You see, those who rejected Christ and His truth then, did so because of their choosing to dull their ears and close their eyes. They did not want to be converted so they were not converted. Many, many times the Lord Jesus said, in effect, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” It is clearly understood that only those who tune their ears to hear God, hear Him; only those whose will chooses to know God, know Him; only those who are open to believe the Bible come to believe the Bible.

Lord willing, we will continue this topic in our next episode.

Now, if you are listening today, and you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, allow me to show you how.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Until next time, my friend, please keep in mind these reasons to believe. God bless!
