MSNBC host Joy Reid has claimed Trump is sicker than he lets on and compared him to Herman Cain, who died of COVID-19 – two days after she suggested the president was faking his diagnosis.
The news presenter cast doubt on Trump’s health on Tuesday, saying he looked like a ‘very sick elderly man’, following his first public appearance at the White House since he was hospitalized.
Trump posed for a photo-op atop the Truman Balcony on Monday where he was seen yanking his mask off before giving a thumbs up and a military salute.
He later downplayed the severity of his illness, saying he felt ‘great’ and told Americans to ‘not be afraid’ of the virus.
Reid however, said she was not convinced that the president was the picture of health and compared his case to that of Cain, who died of coronavirus days after he was reported to be feeling better.
Cain, who ran as a Republican candidate in the 2000 presidential election, tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a now-infamous Trump rally in Tulsa this summer without a mask.
Reid noted that Cain was diagnosed on July 2 and was reported to have been on the mend between July 10 and July 27. He then died on July 30.
‘He kept saying he was feeling better. I’m sure at some point maybe his doctor, I don’t know, sent him home, thought he was fine but he ended up dying,’ she said on The Reid Out.
‘Donald Trump made a video saying, “People should not be afraid of the coronavirus.” That tweet was considered so egregious that even Facebook and Twitter took down his statement because it is false.
‘How much danger is Donald Trump in – a few days into his coronavirus prognosis – and how much danger are his staff in?’ Reid said.
Trump spent three days at Walter Reed Medical Center, where he was reported to have had trouble breathing and was treated with a cocktail of lab-made antibodies.
Reid analyzed the president’s appearance during his theatrical return, suggesting he ‘appeared to be laboring in his breathing’ and at one point ‘put his hand on his diaphragm, like he was wincing in pain.’
‘He was trying to look like a tough guy but he looked, quite frankly, like a very sick elderly man with a lot of makeup on. That’s what he looked like to my eye,’ Reid said.
Reid’s comments come just four days after she suggested Trump could have been faking his diagnosis as a way to get out of the next presidential debate.
The host shared the theory in a tweet on Friday after Trump announced he and First Lady Melania had tested positive for the virus.
