Rahema Kyomuhendo, 24, from the Mbarara District, West Uganda, is said to be recovering in Mbale Regional Referral Hospital after she was left with horrific burns across her legs, torso, neck and lower back.
A religious persecution watchdog, the Morning Star News, said Rahema is likely to need treatment for a month.
A source told the news site she converted from Islam to the Catholic Church after listening to Christian broadcasts on the radio.
The alleged attack took place at her aunt’s house in Nawuyo Village, in the Mbale District.
That evening she had decided to phone a friend of her father’s who was a Roman Catholic to discuss the religion.
Speaking from her hospital bed: “She explained to me about Christ and the way of salvation, and I got convicted and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.
“As she was sharing Christ with me, I was so overjoyed, and my father heard my joy and woke up, came from his bedroom furiously, and started beating me up with blows, slaps and kicks.”
