With free agency only a month away from starting up, ESPN insider Field Yates revealed which teams have the fewest salary cap commitments for the 2020 season. Almost every team on the list has major question marks on its roster, though.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the most flexibility heading into the offseason. However, Bruce Arians will have to figure out who his quarterback will be next fall and how much the team wants to spend on Shaquil Barrett, who just had 19.5 sacks this past season.
Right behind the Buccaneers on the list are the Miami Dolphins. It’s not all that surprising that a team that traded away most of its assets will enter the offseason with tons of cap space. Head coach Brian Flores will have plenty of holes to fill on the roster with that money.
Coming in with the third-most flexibility is Buffalo. This is an ideal spot for the Bills, especially after making the playoffs this past season. It also helps that Josh Allen is on a rookie contract, so the front office isn’t spending a ton at quarterback.
The 5 teams with the fewest cap commitments for 2020:
1. Buccaneers: $125.4M
2. Dolphins: $139.8M
3. Bills: $140.9M
4. Giants: $143.0M
5. Cowboys: $150.9M
Cap flexibility, but roster question marks to address.
