Comedian Pete Holmes says he had to tell Malia Obama and her friend to ‘shut the f*** up’ for whispering during his stand up show – but didn’t realize it was her until afterwards.
The Crashing star said the eldest daughter of former President Barack Obama was in the front row of a recent gig at the Comedy Studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
He told late-night host Conan O’Brien that he even threw a curtain over the pair they were so annoying – and then joked he was surprised her Secret Service bodyguards didn’t intervene.
Holmes, 40, said he had no idea that 21-year-old Malia, a Harvard University student, was in the audience when he went on stage.
He said she and her friend had been whispering and giggling to each other in the front row throughout all the previous acts, he told Conan Thursday.
He said: ‘Sometimes I do shows and I don’t know that there’s someone of note in the audience.
‘There were these two hot women, young women, in the front that the whole show were whispering.’
The comedian added: ‘Like it’s worse than heckling.
‘What a Black Mirror nightmare to be doing stand up, and there’s two attractive girls – which is what made every nerd into a comedian – in the front row whispering and laughing at people on the stage, but in a bad way.’
Holmes said he refused to put up with their bad manners.
‘And then I go on last, and I tell a joke, and they’re whispering and laughing and giggling, and I’m just like, ‘What’s going on? I can see you.” Holmes said.
‘They were in the front row. They were in the light. Like the spotlight was on them as well. And I just go, ‘What’s going on? I can see you, please stop.”
But the pair ignored him which only further wound him up. He asked them again to ‘please cut it out’ and when that didn’t work he stepped things up.
Holmes said: ‘Then I get a little more like, ‘Shut up. Look at my face. I’m here to help.’
‘But you know, you push Petey too far. I’m like, ‘Please, shut the f*** up.”
He then grabbed a curtain and threw it over them.
He said: ‘And I go, ′I don’t care. Enjoy the show however you want. I just don’t want to see you,’ and I cover them with the curtain,’ he said. ‘I thought this would get a big laugh. Nothing. The whole audience turns on me.’
Holmes said he had no idea who she was at the time.
He said: ‘After the show, I find out it was Obama’s daughter. It was Malia! And her hot friend!
‘She looked great. Terrible comedy audience. That’s a true story.’
Conan asked: ‘Who let you put a curtain around President Obama’s daughter? Why weren’t you shot?’
Holmes said: ‘I’ve never gotten off stage and been like, ‘Why wasn’t I shot?’ Or at least a little laser beam like you’re trying to entertain a cat on my face.
‘I covered them. I was like, ‘Shut up, shut up, shut up. You should vanish.
