Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly paid a pre-Christmas surprise visit to three boys whose father had recently passed away.
One of the boys’ relatives posted videos of the December 17 meeting on Facebook, which began with Stafford and his wife walking through the first door and surprising the Krause family.
‘Oh my God!’ two of the boys can be heard yelling as they realized who was visiting.
‘Good to meet you,’ said Stafford. ‘How are you guys doing?’
The oldest of the three Krause boys literally dropped to the floor in utter shock as Stafford walked through the door.
The boys’ father, Conor Krause, passed away unexpectedly in September, but not much else has been publicized about his death.
‘People are so, so good,’ Krause’s cousin Dean Harb wrote on Facebook. ‘And I know my cousin is beaming from Heaven.’
The boys’ mother Heather can be heard in another clip, in which she is evidently overcome with emotion.
‘I’m going to have a heart attack,’ she said, adding ‘I’m going to cry.’
Heather Krause added on Facebook: ‘my mind is blown!’
The family has a GoFundMe page set up for the remaining family members.
‘As many of you know, Conor Krause passed away unexpectedly and September 2019. He left behind his beautiful wife Heather, and their three young sons. The money raised here well go directly to the family to help offset living expenses.
Stafford, who suffered a season-ending back injury on November 3, took pictures with the boys and stuck around to play them in some video games.
Kelly Stafford continues to recover from surgery in April to remove a benign brain tumor.
She had previously announced that she wanted to visit a deserving Lions fan and deliver a Christmas tree, calling for nominations on Instagram last month.
‘Alright y’all.. since it’s snowing outside and feels like the holiday season,’ Kelly Stafford wrote in the November 7 post. ‘The Stafford Christmas Gift email has been officially set up and is ready to start receiving your nominations!
‘We are looking for a person or a family that might need a little extra holiday cheer this year. Maybe they have had to endure something no one should have to go through and just need an extra reason to smile during the holidays!’
