This is Daniel Whyte III with The Scripture & The Sense Podcast #353, where I read the Word of God and give the sense of it based on an authoritative commentary source such as the Bible Knowledge Commentary. This podcast is based upon Nehemiah 8:8 where it says Ezra and the Levites “read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.” The aim of this podcast is that through the simple reading of the Word of God and the giving of the sense of it, the church would be revived and the world would be awakened.
Today we are reading Hosea 14:8.
8 Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.
That was Hosea 14:8. Now here is the sense of it.
The Bible Knowledge Commentary reads:
The first statement is best translated, “Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols?” The contrast with Ephraim’s earlier attitude is stark. The Lord speaks in the latter half of 14:8, proclaiming His concern for Israel. The words care for translate the same Hebrew word as “lurk” in 13:7. The same God who stealthily watched Israel like a leopard ready to pounce on its prey will become the One who carefully watches over His people to protect them! Comparing Himself to a green pine tree, the Lord also asserted that He is the nation’s source of prosperity: your fruitfulness comes from Me.
