Kanye West to Debut Second Biblical Opera About Mary, the Mother of Jesus, on December 8 in Miami

Kanye West is churning out operas like mix tapes. Hot on the heels of last month’s Nebuchadnezzar, ‘Ye will debut his second opera in as many months on Sunday (Dec. 8) when he unleashes Mary in Miami. Like his previous effort, Mary will feature West’s Sunday Service choir and direction by the rapper’s creative partner Vanessa Beecroft, who also helmed Nebuchadnezzar.

West tweeted out the announcement of his new work on Thursday night (Dec. 5) with little additional information save for a quote from Luke 1:30-31, “And the angel said unto her, fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.” Nebuchadnezzar starred Sheck Wes as the emperor; at press time there was no casting information on Mary.

A press release announcing the event describes it an “an original opera, based on the biblical story of the miraculous events surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ. The Books of Matthew and Luke recount the story of Mary, who was divinely chosen by God to bring forth the Messiah… West’s Mary brings together elements from different worlds – including opera, fine art, modern dance, and gospel music – to create a new visual interpretation and innovative performance structure.”

According to the ticketing information for the event, it will take place at 3 p.m. at Miami Marine Stadium, which is the first stadium in the U.S. built specifically for powerboat racing. GA spots on the beach and elevated GA seats are listed at $200 each with a $24 service fee.
