A 16-year-old Houston high school student is claiming that she was raped by a fellow student in a secluded hallway for 30 minutes, during which she screamed but nobody came to help.
The alleged incident took place at Mayde Creek High School at around 11:30am on November 22.
The 11th grader says that she was approached by a boy, whose name she did not know, just as she was about to leave school grounds to go to lunch, according to KPRC-TV.
Moments after they started talking, she said he turned violent.
‘He shoved me down on the ground,’ said the girl, who is not named as a victim of sexual abuse.
‘That’s when he took my pants off and started touching me, and then he flipped me over basically and he basically raped me.’
The girl said she resisted her assailant and screamed throughout the attack, but nobody walked through the area.
She said the attack ended when the class bell rang. The boy stopped, got up, and walked away.
The girl said that the rapist who assaulted her appeared relaxed and comfortable, leading her to believe that there may be other victims.
The girl’s mother told KPRC-TV that she is outraged.
‘You know my daughter was a virgin before this and her very first experience is rape,’ the mother said.
‘I’m angry. I’m beyond angry. I am in a deep, dark hole right now.’
The mother added: ‘This rapist needs to pay and he needs to understand, everybody needs to understand, that you just don’t go around victimizing people’s kids.’
The mother says she reported the incident to the Katy Independent School District police, which confirmed on Thursday that it was looking into the matter.
Police told the mother that investigators would be reviewing school surveillance cameras to try to pinpoint a suspect.
The mother is furious at the school, saying it should have done more to protect her daughter.
‘When we put our kids in the hands of another, especially a school situation, we expect our kids to be safe,’ she said.
‘We expect our kids to come home the same way we sent them.’
School district officials told KPRC-TV that so far the girl and her mother have not been cooperative with a detective assigned to the case.
Ronnie Edwards, the principal of Mayde Creek High School, released a statement on Thursday which read: ‘Yesterday evening, a local media outlet reported an alleged sexual assault that was said to have taken place on the MCHS campus.
‘As of this morning, the individual who made the claim has yet to respond to police inquiries to begin an investigation.
‘Sexual assault is an incident that campus administration and Katy ISD police investigate thoroughly to ensure student and staff safety.
‘Students or other persons found to be involved in such a heinous crime will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Discipline Management Plan / Student Code of Conduct and applicable laws.
‘The safety of our students at MCHS and throughout Katy ISD is our utmost priority.
‘Communication with our students is the first line of defense to keeping our campus safe and I encourage any students, parents, staff and community members who may have knowledge of criminal or inappropriate activity to inform law enforcement and campus administration immediately.’
