Dallas police are investigating a drive-by shooting that killed a 79-year-old woman in her home Thursday night.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. in the 3700 block of Meyers Street in South Dallas when a passing vehicle opened fire and hit Gloria Roque, who was in her living room, police said.

She was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where she died.

A family member who lives nearby ran to Roque’s home after hearing five or six shots outside. He and his family shut the doors and got down when they heard them, he said.

“It was ugly,” said her cousin, who goes by the name “Larry Larry” and asked not to use his last name. “We were just watching a football game and we heard the shots.

“She usually calls us. And when she didn’t, we went there.”

When they got to the scene of the shooting, there was nothing they could do to save Roque.
