TEXT: 1 Timothy 2:1-8
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
In our last message, we talked about the importance of praying for “all men.” This is the first step to making America godly again. If we paused to pray for those with whom we disagree, we would begin to see those people we consider our enemies as God sees them. In a way, they themselves are not the problem. Either they are sinners who have never known God, or they are saints who have backslidden into sinful ways. We ourselves can identify with them because we were once like them some of us in the church are like them now. We know that what they really need is an encounter with Jesus, and prayer to God will open our eyes to that fact and their eyes too.
In verse 2 of this passage, Paul extends his command that “supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men” to a more specific class of people. He says, “For kings, and for all that are in authority.” Government leaders need our prayers just as much as everyone else. We sometimes mistakenly think that political power is separate and apart from the influence of God. We act as if a political regime is equal in significance to the kingdom of God. But this is not the case. The kingdom of God is over any and all political kingdoms, and the Church is the representation of the kingdom of God on earth. Thus, the Church is, in the larger and more spiritual sense, over political kingdoms. The government is not equal to the Church. The Church is over the government. The sycophantic, compromising pastors and preachers advising presidents today are disgusting and are the main reason America is in the mess we are in today. Always remember that advisors and counsellors are more powerful than the people they advise and counsel. They are, indeed, the power behind the throne. If you have been invited to advise and counsel a president and he does not take heed to your advice and counsel, then you are not a prophet; you are a puppet being used by the president. For God’s sake, for Jesus’ sake, and for the Kingdom’s sake you ought to resign immediately and focus on doing what God called you to do, and that is to preach the Gospel. In case you are wondering who I am talking about, I am talking about specifically the pastors and preachers who advised former president Obama, and the pastors and preachers who are now advising President Trump. President Obama lied to the church and to the world about his view on homosexuality and homosexual marriage to get elected. He was the first president is U.S. history to sanction homosexuality and homosexual marriage in this country. It is embarrassing to black Americans and to Africans being that he was the first black president. Now, President Trump is a supporter of homosexuality and homosexual marriage, recently saying that a man who is married to a man and who is running for president “is good.” I find it strange that President Trump has overturned everything that President Obama has done, but this one thing: the government sanctioning of homosexuality and the double abomination of homosexual marriage. This tragic compromise and evil is important to bring up because all of the pastors and preachers who advised President Obama and all of the pastors and preachers who are advising President Trump all know something that these presidents do not understand, and that is, the simple principle that in God’s economy you “reap what you sow.” “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” And that when you “sow the wind you reap the whirlwind.” And that “a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.” This means if you do what you think is a little evil and a little compromising in a corner of the house, eventually, no matter what good you do elsewhere in the house, that evil is going to bring down the entire house.
The Bible Knowledge Commentary says, “The Ephesian church was to pray for everyone, but especially for the leaders of civil government. Paul did not specify here the content of these prayers, but almost certainly he was instructing that requests be made for the salvation of the populace and its governors. This can be seen clearly from the following verses. With Nero’s growing resentment toward Christians and the general disintegration of the Roman Empire due to Nero’s gross self-indulgence, Christians began to suffer persecution from the Roman authorities. Having recently been released from his Roman imprisonment, Paul was greatly aware of the deteriorating political atmosphere. Thus he urged prayer for the salvation of all men, but especially rulers, so that the stable, non-interfering environment of previous days might be recovered.”
Of late, Christians in this country have routinely raised concerns that the government, in certain instances, has begun interfering in the work of the church and in the public and professional conduct of Christians. While we ought to be responsible in how we attempt to influence political issues, the struggles over freedom of religion in this country will not be won at the ballot box. The primary weapon of Christians is prayer to God. If we want to live quiet, peaceful lives in this land, we must make a habit of praying for the true salvation and Christian formation of our government leaders. We know that “the king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD: as the rivers of water, He turns it whithersoever he will.”
Daniel Crane Roberts and George William Warren wrote:
God of the ages, whose almighty hand
leads forth in beauty all the starry band
of shining worlds in splendor through the skies,
our grateful songs before thy throne arise.
Thy love divine hath led us in the past;
in this free land with thee our lot is cast;
be thou our ruler, guardian, guide, and stay,
thy Word our law, thy paths our way.
From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence,
be thy strong arm our ever sure defense;
thy true religion in our hearts increase;
thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.
Refresh thy people on their toilsome way;
lead us from night to never-ending day;
fill all our lives with love and grace divine,
and glory, laud, and praise be ever thine.

Now, if you are with us today, and you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, your first prayer needs to be what we call the Sinner’s Prayer. First, please understand that you are a sinner, just as I am, and that you have broken God’s laws. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.
Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.
If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on trusting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. You have done the most important thing in life.
