14th Suspect Arrested in David Ortiz Shooting

Police officers escort Junior Julio Cesar La Hoz Vargas, center with helmet, allegedly implicated in the shooting of former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, into a courtroom

Dominican Republic police made another arrest this weekend over David Ortiz’s shooting — the 14th since the former Red Sox slugger’s mistaken-identity ambush, according to authorities.

Junior Cesar La Hoz Vargas was busted Saturday, accused of renting the apartment where accused mastermind Victor Hugo Gómez Vasquez hid out before he was captured on Friday, according to the Boston Globe.

Authorities on Friday also arrested Alberto Miguel Rodriguez Mota — the alleged inside man who paid the hit men about $8,000 — who was found by Dominican armed forces off the coast as he tried to flee Puerto Rico by boat, officials told the Globe.

One suspect still remains on the lam — Luis Alfredo Rivas Clase, who also is known as “The Surgeon,” according to officials.

A judge ruled on Saturday that initial court appearances for Gomez Vasquez and Rodriguez Mota could be pushed back, according to the Globe.
