First, today, let’s look at some Signs of His Coming in the news.

The disciples asked Jesus in Matthew 24:3, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Jesus Christ gave them (and us) clear signs that show us when we can begin to expect to see the Coming of the Lord and the end of the world. Looking at world events through the lens of the Word of God, let’s look at some headlines from today’s news that point to the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Israel National News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed support for the U.S. in a video statement after President Donald Trump met with top security officials to discuss America’s response to the recent downing of a drone aircraft by Iranian forces. Netanyahu said, “In the last 24 hours, Iran has intensified its aggression against the United States and against all of us. I repeat my call for all peace-loving countries to stand by the United States in its effort to stop Iran’s aggression. Israel stands by the United States on this.”

Second, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Times of Israel, the Israeli military this week conducted a massive exercise simulating war against the Hezbollah terror group — its largest drill in two years — in a first test of army chief Aviv Ko-ha-vi’s new strategy for the Israel Defense Forces. The five-day drill, dubbed “First Harvest,” began on Sunday, with ground troops, the air force and navy taking part in the exercise, which included fighting on multiple fronts simultaneously. Hezbollah is believed to possess an arsenal of over 100,000 rockets and mortar shells, as well as a small number of advanced precision-guided missiles. The Israeli military believes that thousands of these projectiles would rain down on the country during a future war, and the overwhelming number of them would cause significant amounts of damage, injuries, and deaths throughout Israel.

Third, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES AND EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to CNN, the measles outbreak in the United States continues to grow, with the number of cases this year now reaching over 1,000.  Cases have been confirmed in 28 states. The number of cases this year marks the greatest number reported in the United States since 1992 and since measles was declared eliminated in 2000, meaning it was no longer continuously transmitted in the country.

Now, it’s time for Prophecy Bootcamp.

Prophecy Bootcamp is where we deal with the basics of prophecy, the Second Coming of Christ, and what will happen in the future according to the Bible. Our aim here is not to make predictions but to help you get prepared by understanding how things will unfold in the end times.

Our topic for today is titled “The Great Harlot and the Scarlet Beast (Part 1)” from Dr. Ed Hindson’s book “Revelation: Unlocking the Future.”

The fall of Babylon has already been announced in Revelation 14:8. Its doom has already been certified. Now the seer fills in the details, taking all of chapter 17-18 to do so. Both ecclesiastical and political Babylon come into view in the things that follow. The city itself is pictured as a drunken harlot who is about to fall into judgment. She drains the cup of God’s wrath, only to be deceived by the very beast that carries her.

Leon Morris emphasizes the sense of finality the reader feels from this point onward. He writes, “Now John fixes his eyes firmly on the end-time. He concerns himself not with the apparent triumph of evil, but with their final and complete overthrow. He sees God as casting down every stronghold and hurling His judgments against the wicked. No might of theirs avails. God is completely triumphant.”

John the Revelator is summoned by one of the angels to view the judgment of the great harlot. By contrast, later he will be summoned to view the Bride of the Lamb. The correlation is deliberate. It sets forth the contrast between the kingdom of the Antichrist, the city of the great harlot, and the city of the Bride of Christ, the New Jerusalem. The great harlot is portrayed in direct opposition to the Bride of Christ.

The great harlot is in the wilderness | The bride of Christ is in heaven

The great harlot rides the beast | The bride of Christ returns with Christ

The great harlot is adorned in luxury | The bride of Christ is adorned in righteousness

The great harlot drinks from the cup of abominations | The bride of Christ drinks of the water of life

The great harlot wages war against the Lamb | The bride of Christ reigns with the Lamb

The great harlot ends in destruction | The bride of Christ lives forever

Lord willing, we will continue looking at this topic in our next podcast.

In closing, let’s consider what God wants you and I to do in light of His Second Coming.

Jesus Christ said in Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till I come.” In light of that, we are continuing our journey through the book, “Coming Events and Present Duties,” by J.C. Ryle. It is a collection of what he called “prophetic tracts” that focus on the believer’s duty in light of the signs which point to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

This section is titled, “What Time Is It?” (Part 1). J.C. Ryle writes:

Romans 13:12 said, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.”

You and I are in a world which is rapidly rolling on towards the day of judgment. There is an hour before us all when the earth and its works shall be burned up, and the inhabitants thereof shall all stand before the bar of Christ. There is a day to come whose issues are of greatest importance. Surely it befits us to think of that day. Are we ready for it? Is it possible that we may live to see it? Is it near, or is it far off? What time is it?

Come with me this day and consider the thoughts of an inspired Apostle on this solemn subject. He says, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and put on us the armor of light.” These words ought to come home to our consciences like the blast of a trumpet. They ought to rouse our sleeping minds to a sense of the eternal realities which are before us. They call upon us to lay aside all trifling, lingering, and carelessness about our Christianity. They summon us to a close walk with God.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at this topic in our next broadcast/podcast.

CLOSING PRAYER

…….

Remember the words of the Lord in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:44 says, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

If you are not ready for the Return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…” Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
