DJ Pryor Praises God for Using Viral Video With His Son to Help ‘Change the Narrative of Black Fatherhood’

A father who’s seen engaging his infant son in a long conversation in a video posted to Facebook that quickly went viral says the attention has been a blessing from God, just in time for Father’s Day.

The viral video of Deztin Pryor, known as DJ Pryor, and his 19-month-old son was uploaded to Facebook by the baby’s mother, Shanieke Pryor, and shows the pair engaged in a conversation. While the baby’s words sound like gibberish, his father warmly encourages him in the conversation by responding as they talk back-and-forth.

Pryor told CNN they were watching the season finale of “Empire” as the baby pointed his finger to the television screen and chatted away. The interaction has now been watched more than 57 million times with over 1.5 million shares on Facebook alone.

After realizing that his video nearly broke the internet with shares, the Tennessee-based comedian took to Instagram to share his story.

LAUGHTER!!! We Enjoyed A Good Healthy Laugh Together!!! I’ve been doing stand up comedy for 16 years this week, I started at 15 years old. I would walk 6 and a half miles IN MY ALL PURPOSE SHOES (Looooved My Puma’s) one way to the one place they had comedy in town. I’d finesse my way in by talking trash and making the guy at the door laugh. Sometimes I’d do all of that to not even get to go up that night. Sometimes I’d get to go up and I was determined to leave my mark and Kill The Stage!!! I Worked, Lost Everything Pursuing This Dream!!! BUT!!! When it’s your time it’s your time and GOD USED MY VERY SEED to expose me!!! This Year we are changing the narrative of fatherhood especially black fatherhood!!! WE ARE HERE!!! We Connect With Our Kids!! We’ve been here we just haven’t gotten a lot of press UNTIL NOW!!! When my boys JABARI & KINGSTON are grown I want them to remember the day we made THE WORLD COME TOGETHER TO LAUGH!!!! Uh Oh!! The Door Is Open NOW!!!! It’s A Wrap!!! 💯💯💯 ABOUT TO SHAKE THE COMEDY GAME!!! LOVE Y’ALL!!! Y’all Mean The World To Us!!! I appreciate all your letters and messages and I read some to Kingston. Pryor believes “laughter” is the common thread that unites all people.

“I’ve been doing stand-up comedy for 16 years this week, I started at 15 years old,” he shared of his pursuit of a comedy career which he said caused him to lose “everything.”

NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSORS!!! DID ME & KINGSTON BREAK THE INTERNET??!!! WHAT’S GOODY EVERYBODY!!! Wheeeeeeeeww!!! Where Do I Begin???? First Off THANK GOD!!! And THANK YOU!!! THE FANS, SUPPORTERS AND ADOPTED FAMILY FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! 💪🏾💪🏾💯 We could not have achieved any of this without any of you! We’re incredibly humbled by all the love and messages and shares and follows etc etc!!! Everyone has been asking me how I feel?? And the first few days I had no answer due to just being in shock, but now my feeling in one word is GRATEFUL!!! This video my Wife Shanieke Pryor shot was literally a “Home movies collection” type deal. It wasn’t shot with the intent to try to go VIRAL just something for the keepsake and no doubt I probably would’ve released it at a later date for the fun of it. I’ve worked, 16 years at chasing my dream to become an A-List Actor And The Greatest Comedian Of all Time!!! Things were already moving but It took my youngest son 1 year to achieve this 😂😂😂 The Point I’m Making is Sometimes The Dream May Not Unfold The Way You Saw It But It’ll Still Happen! I’m Grateful My Wife Captured One Of Our Pure FUNNY, FUNNY MOMENTS that happen everyday in our house 🏠 Thank You So Much Shanieke Pryor none of this would be without you, and thank you for your Steady Hands (holding the camera 🎥) LOL!! Thank You For Posting! To my oldest son Jabari thank you son for supporting your little brother and I and waiting your turn to show the world your SHINE!!! More importantly than fame I want the takeaway to be FATHERS WE ARE VERY RELEVANT TO THE NARRATIVE OF SOCIETIES PROGRESSION! Less guns would get picked up if more boys knew how to use their hands and go toe to toe, blow for blow Or If our boys were taught the power of simply outthinking an enemy rather than having to prove themselves to everyone who “Challenges” them. I’m Proud Of The Video Because It’s a Salute To All The Active FATHERS!!! Especially us black FATHERS who get a bad rep in the media a lot of the times. This video SHOWCASES a Natural, Hilarious Moment Of Letting My Son Communicate his thoughts and concerns about the grand finale of Empire!!! #WeBrokeTheInternet
