This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #307, titled, “You Can be Debt Free!.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.
YOU ARE IN DEBT TO GOD.
The Bible asks this question, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” You might be debt free or even financially successful; however, the Bible states in Romans 3:10, 23 that you are in debt to God. “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:…For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Your debt to God must be paid.
ONLY DEATH CAN PAY YOUR DEBT.
The Bible states in Romans 5:12, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death…” Your payment you owe for your sin is death. The Bible says in Psalm 9:17, “The wicked shall be turned into hell…” and in Revelation 20:14, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” After you die, the payment for sin has only just begun, and you will pay the debt of your sin for all eternity. The Bible asks in Isaiah 33:14, “Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”
SOMEONE HAS ALREADY PAID YOUR DEBT.
Friend, because of God’s great love for you, He has paid your debt! Although it is your debt, and you are responsible for its payment, Jesus paid it all out of His mercy and pure love for you. Romans 5:8-9, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” Jesus died on the cross and shed His Blood to pay your debt of sin! Colossians 1:14, “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:”
Jesus Christ did not stay in the grave, but He arose from the dead, proving He is God. His resurrection is our guarantee that His payment is good for all eternity. Hebrews 7:25, “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”
YOU MUST CLAIM THE PAYMENT FOR YOURSELF.
Jesus Christ died to pay the debt of sin for everyone; however, not everyone has claimed the payment. Have you? You must claim His payment for your debt by faith. Faith is simply placing your complete trust in Christ. To escape burning forever in the lake of fire, you must trust Jesus Christ and the payment He made on the cross. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
The Lord Jesus Christ also said in Luke 13:3, “…except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Are you willing to turn away from your sin and turn to God? The decision is yours. The payment for sin is final. Your eternity depends upon it. John 3:36 says, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
God promised you in Romans 10:9, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
If it is your desire to be saved, please pray this prayer, or one similar to it: “Dear Heavenly Father, I know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died for my sin and rose again. I am willing to turn from sin. I now ask Jesus Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour. I am willing, by God’s grace, to follow and obey Christ as the Lord of my heart and life. Amen”
