Slain Rapper Nipsey Hussle’s Parents Pay Tribute to Him as a ‘Humble, Spirited, Respectful Man’ who ‘Wasn’t Scared of Anything’ as 20,000 People Prepare to Attend His Staples Center Funeral

Nipsey Hussle’s parents have paid tribute to the ‘humble, spirited, respectful man’ who ‘wasn’t scared of anything’ following his death at the end of March.

The 33-year-old rapper was shot multiple times in the head and torso in the parking lot of his clothing store in south Los Angeles.

The funeral for Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, will take place in Los Angeles tomorrow at the Staples Center, a 21,000-seat arena.

Hussle’s mother, Angelique Smith, told the LA Times: ‘I would like for him to be remembered as a humble, spirited, respectful man who had, since his childhood, had an extraordinary and unlimited intellectual capacity.’

She also said he always knew his own capability, and once begged a counselor to test him for a gifted program at his school.

His father Dawit Asghedom added that he always told the truth and wasn’t scared of anything.

Asghedom told the LA Times: ‘It was like he was sent by God to give some love, to bring us together, because that’s what his lyrics were saying, always. He was not shy to tell the truth even though it might not look good.

‘He wasn’t scared of anything. [God] sent him to send a message. It looks like, “Your time is up because you have completed what I sent you to do.”‘

The tributes come after Hussle’s death certificate revealed he was pronounced dead 35 minutes after being shot repeatedly in the head and torso.

He was pronounced dead at 3:55pm on March 31 at California hospital medical center, his death certificate, which was obtained by TMZ, reveals.

Gang member Eric Holder, who goes by the rap name Sh***y Cuz, is in custody on murder charges.

Hussle was outside the store with two friends when he was shot.

He had been helping a recently-released ex-con friend pick out clothes to go and see his family in when he was shot.

The cause of their argument remains unclear but police say it was a personal dispute.

Hussle had been working to reduce violence in the neighborhood and was due to sit down with police chiefs to discuss how to stamp out gang warfare when he was killed.

The musician was a former gang member himself but spent the last few years working on his music and developing the area where he grew up.

Hussle leaves behind a seven-year-old daughter, a two-year-old son, and his long-term girlfriend, actress Lauren London.
