Drunk Dallas Woman Hits City Worker While Driving with 1-Year-Old in Car

A woman was arrested this week after she was accused of driving drunk with a 1-year-old child in her car and crashing into a pedestrian in Red Bird.

Police were called just after 4 p.m. Thursday to the 3800 block of West Red Bird Lane, where 48-year-old Leonette Briggs had hit a city employee, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The employee was moving traffic cones in a school zone, and Briggs told Dallas police she was unable to stop her car before crashing into the victim, according to the affidavit.

An officer smelled alcohol on Briggs’ breath, and she told officials she had been drinking earlier in the day after drinking the night before, the warrant states. A 1-year-old child was in the back seat, though police did not say to whom the child belonged.

Briggs was asked to perform a field sobriety test and had her blood drawn before an officer determined she was intoxicated and arrested her.

Briggs was charged with driving while impaired with a child under the age of 15, according to the affidavit.

The city employee was taken to a hospital with bruises, the document states. A relative is caring for the child.
