Troubled Couples May Soon be Taking Their Relationship Problems to AI Counselors

Couples whose partnership is in difficulties could soon be baring their souls to an AI chatbot instead of a human counsellor, according to the head of Britain’s biggest relationship charity.

“We have to start to look at what can be done with a non-human interaction,” Aidan Jones, chief executive of Relate, said. “[AI] can learn as it interacts with different clients and ‘present the environment’, which has value in the same way as with a real counsellor.”

Mr Jones said that Relate’s live chat counselling service, which provided 15,000 online sessions last year, was so popular that there was a demand for twice that number. “Our counsellors tell me because it is more anonymous people will start to explain what their issue…
