Tragic and Sad: Pregnant Newlywed Mother is Killed in Freak Accident with a Deer After Another SUV Hit the Animal and Sent It Through Her Windshield

Tragic accident: Sara Steiner, 35, pictured with her husband and five-year-old daughter, was killed in a freak car accident involving an airborne deer in Omaha

Sara Steiner and her husband were two months away from celebrating their first wedding anniversary – and five months away from welcoming their first child together – when the pregnant Nebraska mom was killed in a freak car crash involving a deer last week.

Steiner, 35, from Omaha, was driving west on Highway 36 in her 2016 Chevrolet Malibu at 7.30am on Friday when a deer came flying through her windshield and out the rear window.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the deer was first struck by Dr Mark Kusek’s eastbound 2017 Tesla Model X SUV and became airborne on impact.

Kusek, a pediatric gastroenterologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, was not injured in the crash, reported Omaha World-Herald.

Steiner, however, was struck in the head and rushed in critical condition to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her husband, Joseph Steiner, was riding in the car with her and witnessed the horrific crash.

The woman was about five months pregnant with her and Joseph’s first child together. The unborn baby could not be saved.

Steiner leaves behind her husband, whom she married last November, and her five-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, Zooey.

Sara’s family say she was an organ donor, and in her death she would help save as many as eight lives, reported KETV.

‘She will bring happiness to some other families and her life will go on in some other way,’ Joseph Steiner said of his wife’s sacrifice.

Sara’s mother, Tammy Trahan, told the station that the lucky recipients of her organs, including her heart, would get some of her fire and sparkle.

According to Sara and Joseph’s wedding website, she was born in Fremont, Nebraska, while the groom is a native of New Jersey. The couple met in 2015 at RTG Medical, where both worked, and Joseph proposed to the mom-of-one in October 2016 during an outdoor photo session with her daughter.

The Steiners had only recently bought a new house in Bennigton, Nebraska, to accommodate their growing family.

According to an online baby registry, Sara was due to give birth on February 5, 2019. The parents were keeping their baby’s gender a surprise.
