Police Make Arrest in Shooting Death of LSU Junior Basketball Player Wayde Sims

Baton Rouge police have made an arrest in the shooting death of LSU basketball player Wayde Sims.

Public information officer Don Coppola of the City/Parish of Baton Rouge confirmed the arrest in an email to USA TODAY Sports on Saturday morning. The Baton Rouge Police Department will have a news conference at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday.

According to police, Sims, 20, was shot early Friday morning and died of his injury at a local hospital. The shooting took place near Southern University, north of downtown Baton Rouge. Sims was a junior forward and a native of Baton Rouge.

He averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in 10 starts for LSU last season. He was the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year after his junior season at University High School, and his father also played at LSU.
