Nichelle Nichols, best known for portraying Lieutenant Uhura in the original Star Trek, has been diagnosed with dementia.

The 85-year-old has been diagnosed with “moderate progressive dementia”, according to her conservatorship documents obtained by TMZ. According to Page Six, her long-term memory, comprehension, verbal communication, concentration and recognition of familiar people is fine, but her doctor, Meena Makhijani, says she has a major impairment in short-term memory and moderate impairment when it comes to abstract concepts, time, place and recall.
