POEM: “Does Jesus Love the Black Man?” (From “The Torch”)

Inspired by a message God gave to Dr. James Earls

Does Jesus love the black man,
Did He die for his soul, too?
Or did Jesus only chose to save
The ones whose eyes are blue?

Did Jesus send His Gospel
To the heathen far away,
Yet would want us to ignore the ones
We pass by every day?

If we could only ponder,
That we all are born in sin,
Then it wouldn’t matter—light or dark,
The color of our skin.

None of us are more worthy
Than are any of the rest,
Because God knew when He made each one
What color would be best.

To Jesus all are precious
Makes no diff’rence what the race,
For a man to come to Calvary
He has to come by grace.
