Over the weekend, OWN released several clips from the latest episode of season two of the network’s popular docu-series, “The Book of John Gray.” One clip shows Pastor John Gray telling Lakewood Church’s senior pastor, Joel Osteen, that he intends to lead his own church in South Carolina at the request of another pastor. The news leaves both men in tears as Gray does not want to make the move without Osteen’s blessing. The church community was greatly surprised when, in December 2017, popular South Carolina Pastor Ron Carpenter formally announced that he was turning Redemption Church over to pastor and comedian John Gray. Carpenter founded the thriving megachurch in 1991 alongside his wife, Hope Carpenter. Ever since, Redemption has become known for breaking racial boundaries and bridging racial divides by bringing all of God’s children together in the spirit of unity to worship Him as one body. Following a months-long transition process, this past Sunday, May 6th, 2018, marked Pastor John Gray and wife Aventer’s official start date as lead pastors at Redemption Church, which they recently renamed Relentless Church with Carpenter’s permission. As for the Carpenters, they are stepping into the next phase of God’s will for their lives by answering the call to run another megachurch in California.
