Road signs have been put up in Jerusalem pointing to the new U.S. Embassy which is set to move to the city next week.
According to The Associated Press, Jerusalem’s Mayor Nir Barkat put up the first signs on Monday in the neighbourhood where the embassy will be located. The white signs read “U.S. Embassy” in English, Hebrew and Arabic.
The new embassy is set to open on May 14 in Jerusalem with a large American delegation, possibly including President Donald Trump, expected to attend. The embassy is being moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem after Trump recognized the Holy City as Israel’s capital last year, despite increasing Israeli-Palestinian tensions.
Israel claims the whole city as its capital, while the Palestinians want to gain the eastern side of the city as the capital of their long hoped-for state.
