Swedish police arrested three people early Sunday after an attempted arson attack on a synagogue in Gothenburg, authorities said. A group of Jewish youths had been gathered in a house next to the synagogue when the incident took place late Saturday, but there were no reports of injuries. The fire reportedly did not reach the synagogue. The Swedish Prosecution Authority gave no details on a possible motive in the attack, but the incident comes amid increased tensions and anti-Israel demonstrations following U.S. President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Security for synagogues throughout Sweden has been raised following the attempted arson, according to the TT news agency.
