First, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Newsweek, Kim Jong Un has largely defied the odds. Faced with mounting U.S. military pressure over his rapidly developing nuclear and ballistic missile arsenal as well as persistent accusations of human rights abuses, the third-generation North Korean leader has successfully developed a weapon capable of delivering mass destruction across the globe, the likes of which the U.S. has dealt to others, but has never before received. North Korea’s latest intercontinental ballistic missile launch on Friday probably burned out before hitting the waters near Japan, but its unprecedented height and range demonstrated a level of performance that experts say places U.S. population centers such as Los Angeles, Chicago and possibly even New York City within range.

Second, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to The New York Times, China’s military has warned India not to underestimate its resolve to hold a mountainous piece of land at the heart of a standoff between the two Asian powers. The comments from the Chinese Ministry of National Defense were the most blunt yet from Beijing in the dispute and indicated that the diplomatic quarrel could still fester or escalate, even if armed conflict seems unlikely. The warning capped days of official comments and editorials from Beijing defending its claim to the 34 square miles of disputed land at a corner where China, India and the small kingdom of Bhutan meet.

Third, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Defense News, Israel’s Defense Ministry and industry developers have begun early work on what could evolve into the Arrow-4, a new missile-intercepting system to defend against much more sophisticated, future threats from Iran. Defense and industry sources are assessing the next major technological challenges that Israel’s integrated, multi-tiered national defense network may have to contend with a decade down the road. Moshe Patel, the director of the Israel Missile Defense Organization, said, “We’re very happy that the missile defense architecture of Israel is working, but, as you know, we can’t stand in place. We have to remain at least one step ahead of the threat.”

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to NPR, an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 hit central Oklahoma on Wednesday, the sixth earthquake to affect the area in just over 24 hours. Four hours later, a less intense earthquake of 3.5 magnitude also struck the area. The USGS said the earthquake was “widely felt” over an area of 15 miles. Residents said the “earthquake cracked floors and walls, and knocked household items off shelves and counters.”

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to The Rio Times, the Brazilian government has announced the implementation of the National Security Plan in Rio de Janeiro which will deploy 8,500 members of the Armed Forces in an effort to improve security. According to the commander of the operation, the use of the Armed Forces can be deployed at any time and there will be no routine, schedules, or permanent locations. In a speech to the residents of Rio, Brazil’s president justified the decree citing the severity of the public security crisis in the state. He said, “The purpose of the mission is to defend the integrity of the population, preserve public order and ensure the functioning of institutions.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 31:7-8 which reads: “For thus saith the Lord; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O Lord, save thy people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Jeremiah 31:7-14, which looks at the return of the Jewish remnant, makes two main points about them. First is the regathering of the remnant, which is described in verses 7-9. Verse 7 declares the Jews are now to “sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations.” This verse calls upon the Gentile nations to begin rejoicing over Israel’s return. “The chief of the nations” is one of Israel’s titles. It is a proud term for Israel—Israel the “foremost of the nations,” a title used in Amos 6:1. The Gentiles are to rejoice and shout and praise God for saving His people, the people of Israel.

Verse 8 deals with the regathering itself, which is to occur first of all “from the north country,” which is Babylon, and also from “the remote parts of the earth,” for this regathering will be on a worldwide scale. It will include Jews who might be blind or lame, pregnant women, and even women who are already in the process of giving birth; a great company is going to return. Verse 9 says the people will come with weeping, which points to their repentance. They will come “by supplication” and God will “lead them,” the result of their prayer. “I will make them walk by streams of waters,” which tells us God will provide sustenance for them. “On a straight path in which they will not stumble”—God will remove all obstacles. Verse 9 concludes with the reason for it all: God is a “father to Israel, and Ephraim is [God’s] firstborn.”

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our Second Coming quote for today is from C.S. Lewis. He said, “Precisely because we cannot predict the moment, we must be ready at all moments.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
